Hi - I've written to a few people and one of them suggested I put a general message here so here goes. As much as I wish I was going to Bonaire instead, going to Maui isn't a bad second choice. I didn't think I would get to go anywhere this year. If anybody has suggestions on where to dive, especially shore dives as we are on a shoestring budget, on Maui I would really appreciate the input. I have never been to Hawaii and it's been about 4 years since John has been there. We are leaving basically tomorrow night but I imagine I can find computer access somewhere like a library when we get there. I love this community!! Thank you.

I went there to windsurf and snorkel. To tell you the truth, I cannot recollect ever seeing divers..hmm..I snorkeled up and down the Waimea coastal area..ahh..it was lovely.

Have fun and for eating tips:

Up country in Paia, got to Mamas, Paia Fish House and then in Makawao head to Paulis for Mexican. Makawao is sooo cool. It is a funky cowboy town with tons of hippie things too..I loved it second after Paia. Do the Hana Hwy ride. 7 hours but well worth it..go ALL the way around. Start early..

email me for tips. I stayed at the Grand Wailea for 3 nights then upcountry.

Sandi

we went to Maui diving in Feb 2000, it was all boat diving mainly around Molikini Crater. We went with Ed Robinson's and they were absolutely brilliant. We stayed at the Outrigger in Wailea and met up with Ed Robs at the Boat ramp at 06:00 each morning to dive. They brought muffins and chocolate flavoured coffees for our breakfast - that's style. As for shore diving we didn't do any. I hope the Humpbacks are in when you go (Nov - Mar)if they are and you are diving the Whalesong can be so loud that it makes your chest vibrate!!!!!! Have fun.
