Annie,
I'm afraid a 'wanna go' list would get way too long, way too fast!

Hello all. Chet, please update us for Mar. 4-23, instead of mar.6-23. Tickets in hand.... thanks Air Jamaica for the free tickets. We'll be staying at the divi. Anybody need a dive partner for am dives?? Need to test the new digital cam!!

If anybody needs anything carried down, please let me know... I know its early, just planning ahead... needs to be packable or small... sorry jake and linda... don't want to hassle with lobsters with all the increased security :)

Although I did see that jake might still be coming to boston.. so he'll be able to get some at a restaurant. And then brag about it to Linda.

Chet,

I think I will still be going off-island. May end up being a room chair at Sea Rovers (get to announce speakers, moderate questions, etc.).

BTW, for any large BT gathering on Bonaire, we'll be happy to provide the space (our patio and beach), a grill, coolers with ice, and a sunset (green flash optional), if the attendees supply the food and dish washing and good company :-)

Kay,
The Turducken sounds fantastic. I sat here drooling on my keyboard during the November postings about Thanksgiving Dinner, wondering what it would taste like. I will be happy to share the cost. I can also offer storage space, since the unit, we are using, has a full sized refrigerator.

We need to set aside a day/evening for the get together. We will be there from Feb 8-18. I will check tomorrow to make sure I can get one. I don't think it will be a problem. Maybe after the Carnival is over so everyone that wants to can try to attend the events.

Jake...what would be a good day for you and your family? Let us know and we'll go from there.

Bob.....I may take you up on the fridge space. Will let you know.

Yahooooo!!!

Yahoo! Turducken!

On our end, the best night to do this sort of stuff is on a Saturday. So, given your dates, that's either February 9th or the 16th, as preferred for us. Would either of those dates work? We're also talking to the Woods about something on the weekend of the 25th, and perhaps the 8th of March too (different groups of people on island each time) :-)

Jake

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Kay Powers on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 - 10:29 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

Jake,

We arrive on the 8th and the turducken will be frozen and it takes a couple of days to thaw out so maybe the 16th will be a good day. If that is a good day for the rest of the BT's that's good for me.

If the 9th is better for everyone then I'll have to figure a way to transport it so it will be ready to cook on the 9th.

Feedback please everyone. :-)

Hi, all. Can you count the Estill's in. The 16th is great for us, but we'll manage any date, actually.

We are VERY excited that a friend of ours (who has never left the US, other than for Hawaii, before), will be joining us for part of our trip. He'll be there Feb. 12-27. We have the two bedroom unit at Bonaire Townhomes, so he's sharing with us. I am SO looking forward to showing him Dushi Bonaire!

I will be happy to contribute chocolate mousse to the feast --- just need an idea of #, so I can bring the fixings...

We can see how many can make it on the 9th and how many on the 16th. After further thought the 9th or 16th could work. We'll see how many interested parties we have for each date.....

So everyone post your preferred date!

Slight preference for the 9th. That way I'll have a week to get together with the people I meet there. If the vote goes in favor of the 16th, I'll still make it even though we will fly home on the 17th.

kay,
i'm confused. the date is the 9th or the 16th, right? okay, one or the other will work for the Chinese new year dinner, as well. so, once you choose your date we will take sloppy seconds.

Mimi,

I figured if more people were able to attend on the 9th we could do it then. I'm easy so if everyone wants to do it on the 9th and if that works for jake and linda we just have to figure out what time.....I will be doing an afternoon dive at 2...so I can throw the turducken in the oven prior to the dive or after.....

As a quick dining summay here:

Feb 9th - Saturday - Turducken & potluck at our place OR Chinese New Year's dinner at ?
Feb 12th - Tuesday - Gibi's Terrace for a dinner, 7pm, IF Gibi's is open on the final night of Carnival
Feb 16th - Saturday - Whatever is not done on the 9th
Feb 24th - Sunday - Potluck BBQ at our Place, organized with the Woods
Mar 3rd - Lac Cai - The Woods
Mar 9th - Saturday - Potluck BBQ at our Place with the Woods?

Correct me if I got something wrong or right :-)

Jake

The Potluck for the 24th is a "GO" even if only Jean & I show-up (especially if theres any of that Turducken left over in the Richter freezer),
A definate on the March 3rd Lac Cai- with a stop at the StreetCam first,
Giby's Terrace is kind of a every Tuesday evening thing- to see who shows up,
Now, for Saturday the 9th- since we are on (or at least scheduled to be on) the 7:00AM flight to San Juan, any Potluck for that day would be with-out us. (but we could empty our refrigerator onto your doorstep at 4:30AM! :-)

We'll be on-island from Saturday, 03/03/02 to Thursday, 03/07/02. There's three of us - John, Matt, and myself. We originally had additional folks coming along, but they backed out. Any card players out there, Spades players in particular, interested in getting together for a couple games of Spades?

Brent,
Now if you'd said "Hearts", I might have jumped at the chance to play; used to play every chance I got. We (wife Jean & I) will be at Sand$ (essentially a stones throw away). Might you be interested in visiting Lac Cai with other BT'ers on Sunday afternoon, it could be a great place to sit and play cards. By the way, since you posted your on-Island dates, you've been added to my Feb/Mar BT'ers List.

Brent - We will also be at Lion's Dive, 3/1 - 3/15. Hope to see you there.

Chet - Not sure if we'll make Lac Cai on Sunday. Provided our luggage arrives with us, that will be our first dive day. If it doesn't, we'll be there.

Jake - Potluck and a green-flash sound great for the 9th. I'm not much in the cooking department, but I can wash a mean sink full of dirty dishes!

Chet, I like Hearts, too...just haven't played in a while. With regard to Sunday PM, it's a possibility. Since we're all getting in late on Saturday (some later than others), we may be trying to OD on the dives on Sunday...we'll see. Thank you for the invite.

De Etta, two weeks there, eh?...I'm envious. I hope your luggage makes it, but why wait until Sunday to dive if you're arriving on Friday?

Brent (or any others interested), we plan on meeting at the StreetCam about 2:00 (on Sunday, 3 Mar), pose a few times, and then head for Lac Cai. So if your interested, either show-up at the Richter front gate or later at Cai. I and Jean will be wearing yellow buttons that say "Feb/Mar BonaireTalkers 2002".
Also, see the new topic "Feb/Mar BT'ers 2" for a two-piece "Chart" posting.

Brent -- We usually take our first day to get things together, i.e., food, liquor, diving arrangements, etc. And, after a 16+ hour travel day from Minnesota, providing all goes well, I'm tired. Not to mention all the OT it takes in preparing to leave on vacation. I need at least one day, maybe two, just to hang out. It's my reality check! As you might suspect, I'm not a hard core diver. I'm just in it for fun. Well, truth be told, my husband rather forces me. Not really, but that's how it all started!

Chet, thanks for the invite. We'll discuss it and let you know. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get some face time on the webcam. I look forward to meeting you all.

De Etta, believe me...I understand what you mean by overtime and pre-dive "decompression time"...I was just curious. BTW, one might classify our group as "hard-core" divers, but only in the sense that, when the diving is cheap or free, we're hard-core. Otherwise, we're just your average occasional rec divers. We are so looking forward to the trip to end this wonderful winter.

Hi Ken & Lisa,

By reading your upcoming trip postings & Chet's spreadsheet, it sounds like we might cross paths on our way to Bonaire on March 4th. We are on AA and leave from Bangor, ME at 9:00am for Boston, leave there at 12:05 pm for San Juan, and leave there for Bonaire 6:40 pm. My initial reaction to the airport 'wait times' was one of dispair, but reading the postings for the first time today, it turns out this may be a good thing. I just hope the kids' Gameboy batteries hold up!
Hope to see ya,
Ann & John

Hello Ann,

IF (notice the big IF) the Air Jamaica flight is ontime, we will be departing Boston around 7:20am on the 4th... arrive Montego Bay..I forget when, and get into Bonaire around 3:30pm. Sounds like you have quite the travel day ahead of you. The waits probably are a good thing... my montego bay wait is only around an hour... missed it last year. We are staying at the Divi. Not sure about any large get-togethers, the feb. turducken is being discussed now.

I'm sure we'll see you... last june, I met several people on the 2nd day there, and kept running into them all week....
"Lorraine and Jim were following us all week... at least it seemed that way.. " Great small-town experience.
