I will be making my first trip to Bonaire in early October. My primary activity will be diving, but I am an avid fisherman as well. How is the fishing that time of year, and does anyone have any recommendations on what to target and what (if any) guides to look up?

You can fish for reef fish. Kind of strange, if you ask me. I think there are off-shore fishing charters, also.

Just look around for brochures at the marina office, and at the Budget Marine store.

Then you might notice on your dives that there really aren't very many big fish, or big schools of snappers and grunts, or even Yellowtails. Not like Grand Turk, where there's no fishing allowed in their parks. I was amazed at the huge numbers of fish there.....

At least there are moorings for the fishermen being put in place so the fishermen will stop using big rocks for anchors. crunch.

Cheers,

Thanks for the input, and don't worry about the reef fish. My first two choices are off-shore and then the flats for bonefish or permit. I would only fish the reef as a last resort.

Bonefisher men are always up near the Sorobon Beach Hotel. My friend is a fisherman and he has taken people on the boat he works on to Las Aves. It sounds VERY cool. They leave at like 4 AM and come home the same day around 11 PM. LONG day but what an adventure. I met some tourists who went and they LOVED IT.
