I've got a question and it doesn't really have anything to do with Bonaire other than the fact that we're going there for the first time in September and because of that, I've gotten into a digital camera. I've learned a lot, including how to make up a simple slide show (PhotoShop) and "burn" it to a CD-R. Now my question; Will a slide show burnt to a CD-R play back on a DVD player?

Tanks, Richard

P.S. Still countin' down. 59 DAYS TO GO!!!

no...

need a dvd burner, burn the slide show or whatever to a dvd and then sometimes it will play on a dvd player:-)

a cd could still hold a pretty good slideshow however...

too much fun...

come to think of it, dvd players can do cdroms in some cases so i guess it depends on the software that burns the cdrom and the specific model of dvd player...

clear as mud...

So what you're saying is, it's a big "maybe" either way.

Richard

It's an "it depends on the DVD player you're talking about."

Some DVD players only play DVDs.
Some DVD players play multiple disc formats, such as DVD, DVD-r, CD, CD-r, MP3, VCD (VideoCD), etc.

I have one that plays DVD, VCD, CD and the recordable versions of all of the above.

Sounds like you're talking about a Video CD. Maybe this link will provide some helpful info on VCD.

You'll want to figure out how to burn your slide show as a movie onto a CD (or DVD) in order to play it back on a player that supports VCD or DVD.

There is a plethora of information on the web about this. I hope this little tidbit helps.

Your slide show will most likely be JPEG files. Many, if not most, DVD players sold these days, even some VERY cheap ones, will display these. Look for whether the DVD player says it supports JPEG, or Photo CD, or something like that, as well as CD-R. I've found most do.

I agree with Brian. It depends entirely on your DVD player. Scott's right too that the files will probably be jpeg.

I would like to point you folks to a really nice product for making slide shows. It beats PowerPoint to heck, and most other slide show presentation formats I've seen. It's called Picture To Exe and is sold by wnsoft. It allows you to add music to a presentation, choose transitions from picture to picture and the timing of the transitions. You can add text, borders, use composite pictures you've created and lots more. I am in no way connected with this company. I just like their software. It's very popular for slideshow presentations at the scubadiving.com bulletin board.
Picture to exe creates an .exe file that will run on any windows computer with a sound card. You can see a pretty lame example of this software by downloading a presentation I made after our cozumel 2002 vacation by clicking here Save the file to your desktop then click on it to run. It's an 8 megabyte download so you dial up folks be forwarned :-)

One other item: As far as I can tell (I have Photoshop8) The only "slideshow" type things you can do with it are either "PDF" format (Adobe Acrobat format) or Web pages - intended to be read on a computer.

Unless the DVD player is designed to read these, I doubt it'll work the way you expect.
