As Joe Pesci said in the movie Lethal Weapon 2, "OK, OK, OK, OK", maybe "Quick" was overstating it a bit. We'll be arriving on Bonaire (the last week of September, in 65 days to be exact) at about 8:00 pm. and after getting our bags, truck and checking in (BelMar) we're going to want something to eat. Nothing heavy, just something to hold us over 'till morning. Can any of you suggest a place that serves fairly "late". OR, should we think about grabbing a bite at the airport in San Juan during our layover (about 2hrs.) Does anyone know if there's a decent place to eat there? OR, should we just bring something with us to fix at our place after checking in? OR, "OK, OK, OK, OK" that's enough!! If it makes any difference, we are arriving on a Monday.

Tanks, Richard

I believe that there is a number of places still open. Pasa Bon Pizza has been mentioned several times as one of them.

There is a cafe with Puerto Rican food in the SJU airport somewhere. Alcapurrias, pastelles, or empandillos are a good bet for a quickish bite. Try the tostones or maduros too. Tostones are green plantains sliced thick, fried, squashed down, and then fried again. Maruros are ripe plantains that are sliced and fried. I find both tasty, but then I'm known for eating anything that doesn't try to eat me first.

Richard, plan ahead (LOL)...I would definitely grab something in the SJ airport just in case the flight to Bonaire is delayed (hey it happens...often)...and you arrive on island late...by the time you pick up your car, check into the Belmar, it may be well past 10 or so...I always pack crackers and snacks just in case we arrive late and nothing is open...

Have a great trip!

Richard,

O.K., O.K., O.K., (I love that line as well) Linnea and Cynde are both right.

Check out :http://www.bonairedining.com/guide/

Two places that might still be open and are close to you are Gibi's and China Nobo. They are as you probably know, right across from each other and both have good eats.

Thanks everybody. Seeing as though this is our first trip to Bonaire, I think trying to find our way around right off the airplane, at night, to find a restaurant, is going to be a hassle we won't need. We'll probably just eat in San Juan or bring something with us. Then the next morning we'll do our check-out dive, then jump in the truck and get the "lay-of-the-land". Can you actually get lost on this Island??

Be there in 64 days.............. Richard

Richard,

There is also a Subway Sandwich Shop at the airport in San Juan.

86 days for me.

There are lots of back country dirt roads with no lighting and street signs tough to see at times....it is an adventure and fun getting around when you don't know where you are on Bonaire! At nightime it might be difficult to see where you are going but we love to explore during daylight hours and find places we have never been before (sounds like Star Trek! LOL)....but we are running out of virgin turf as we have been to Bonaire several times now and have "explored" quite a bit! We just love cruising around. We have never gotten "lost" as we always find our way back out of where we were or come out at a different spot and then realize where we are. It's fun exploring Bonaire!

Have a great trip, Richard!! Carole

Pasa Bon Pizza is open late (till 11pm), but is closed on Mondays. Donna & Georgio's too is open till 11, but usually they're closed for the month of September. It's the slowest month of the year, so don't be surprised if other restaurants are closed for the month, or close early due to lack of business. I think Garden Cafe (has big lighted lettering on roof that says "Pizza & Grill") might be open. KFC (my place) is open every day of the year, till 11pm, till midnight on Fri & Sat. Don't knock it. We sell green salads, along with the usual KFC menu.

The SJU airport is not that big and there are food places on the way between the AA (domestic) and the AE (international) gates.

Hmmmmm.....Ruth...I'm putting the note that KFC is open late...we always arrive late, and then are starving if we haven't had a good meal all day...plus the trek from the left coast is LONG!!! But are your buffalo wings really buffalo? (just kidding, thinking Jessica Simpson here...hee hee)...Do you still get Salitos once in a while at Mangos? Next trip we are bringing the kids, and I'm thinking that a few of those at the bar while the kids hang and swim would be fun:-)

Nah, no more Salitos, much to my disappointment. The suppliers in Curacao never got them again, and when we tried to import directly from Germany, it became too much of an expense & hassle. Pity. However, I think you'll find that a beer, along with tequila shots, takes the edge off just as well, just not as simple to assemble. I mean, really, how can you top a drink that had its own tequila mixed in, as well as its own bottle opener? Darn, now you've got me missing the Salitos too. But, at least we do have the extra-aged, smooth, "100% de Agave Jose Cuervo Anejo" Tequilia. Or, you can order your Amstel Bright with a Bacardi Limon Rum topper (we fill the neck of the beer bottle with lemon-flavored rum, instead of the lime wedge). Living here makes you very inventive. And frequently tipsy! ;-)

Ruth, OK, if I HAVE to have an amstel with Cuervo Anejo (one of my favorite tequilla) and do it the "old fashioned way" I guess I will suffer...I like the idea of a bright topped with rum....mmmmm.....
