We're going to Bonaire for the first time in September and I've decided to go digital. I've always used an old Nikonos (How old? Well, I got it new in '66) and I no longer want to wait 'till I get home to see if I got anything good. My plan is, after a day of shooting, to go to the Chat 'N Browse and download to CD. Now my question (it may be dumb, but I'm new to this). Are CDs (and memory cards for that matter) immune to damage from electronic screening devices at the airports? I would think they'd be OK, but someone out there may know something I don't (which is very likely regardless of the subject).

No such thing as a stupid question!

I actually sent a email to the TSA to ask if CD's would be okay going through the machines in the airport. Never got an answer. My digital camera, Sony Mavica, copies directly to mini CDs. Also have one that uses memory sticks. I have, in spite of no answer from the TSA, been successful in putting the CDs and memory sticks through the scanner in the carry on luggage with no loss of data. Have not put either in the checked baggage and the scanners used for those items are much stronger than the carry on scanners.
