Hi @all,
greetings from Germany!
In some weeks I will come to visit Bonaire for one day - yes , I know, much to short, but it is a Cruise, arriving in the morning and leaving late evening...
What is most important to see? Of course snorkeling is great, but I am also interested in something "not so wet". What would you suggest to go for?
Thanks in advance
Angela

get a car and visit washington slagbaai park! Wayaka II in the park was our favourite snorkel spot last year, it has a very small, very romantic sandy beach!
Take a picnic basket with you!

If you are to go to the park, get there early! Although the park closes at 5, the rangers will stop you from entering and exploring after 3PM.

From a cruise ship I would rent a car and tour the island and stop and snorkel , then have a late lunch along the water and sunset at Karl's. I love touring the park but it is a long rough day and touring in a air conditioned car is much more gentle. There are plenty of spots you can just jump in and see lots of fish and coral. See the thread on snorkeling.

Rent a car and head south - see Pink Beach, the south lighthouse, the Cargill salt operation/salt pans (which are sometimes flamingo pink :-), up the east side to Sorobon (lunch at Jibe City - good sandwiches - and a snorkel out by the reef:-), a look at the fishing boats, back to the main road and into town. Easily a 4 hour trip. Enjoy!

And don't forget to support the local artists in the park!

Thanks a lot for all the wonderfull suggestions - I see best thing to do is to rent a car! Perhaps I can convince two or three people on the ship to join me! (same for the next stop of the cruise - Curacao)...

By the way: right or left side driving??? ;-)))

I guess most of the people (car rental etc.) will understand english? But - as I am German - I also might understand Dutch - if they speak veeeryyyy slooow ;-)))

Greetings to all of you from cold Germany...brrrrr..

Angela,
All people in the tourist-business will understand english, so that's no problem.
Op Bonaire wordt "gewoon" aan de rechterkant van de weg gereden. :-) If u can read that, than your dutch is ok 2 :-)

I love Dutch - yes I was able to understand it....;-)
Pronounciation is similar to German, only spelling is different...
My House in Germany is ca. 20 km away from Venlo...Favourit shopping place for me...The Dutch Cheese is wonderful...and I often spent a weekend on the beach in the Netherlands, 2 hours to go there....but only in summer of course.
