I just read an article on cnn.com (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/03/23/flamingos.food.reut/index.html) about people in Venezuela catching flamingos... very sad.

They must be desperate. A source on flamingos lists a male averaging 8 pounds and a female only 6.5 pounds alive. It must be a tiny amount of meat they are getting. Unfortunately those same flamingos are some of the ones that breed here on Bonaire. The guess that up to 10,000 flamingos are here during breeding season but most fly to Venezuela for food daily since Bonaire can only sustain about 2,000 flamingos year round.
