I'm thinking about getting an extra pair of tanks for my husband & I to minimize runs for refills. Are these likely to be theft targets in a rental truck parked at a dive site? Can anyone think of a way to secure them? Thanks!

Joy, it's my understanding that most, if not all, of the dive shops have their shop logo permanently affixed to the tanks, making it less of a target because there is nothing they can do with it if they steal it. Maybe use it one time for the air, but can't sell it, and can't get it refilled. Although, of course, if they are stealing it just to be a pain in the butt, it's always an option.

I, personally, have never had a problem with it, even with three or four tanks in the truck.

We have never had a problem leaving our second tanks in the truck at a dive site and I do not recall that ever being mentioned here.

I had not seen it mentioned either, and I had thought that maybe the logos would deter the thieves, but then I thought about them being repainted. Anyway, I'm sure I am just being paranoid. I'm planning a first trip to Bonaire and have heard marvelous things about it--just don't want to spoil the good time by doing something stupid! Thanks!

Hi Joy, welcome to the board. I don't like to leave my full tanks laying out in the sun.

TOTAL theft targets, and completely unnecessary Joy. You can usually park so as to give them a bit of shade if you worry about the sun like some folk do, or stick them in the car. If somebody won't give you a mess of tanks at once, use another provider. We store them (out of the sun) where we are staying and cart them around as needed, you can usually drop off empties 24/7 while going somewhere else. I usually get four to six per stop and often dropoff on the way to/from dinner or grocery run.
So when ya goin' Arcookie?

Joy ... thanks for asking the question ... getting ready to do our first trip to Bonaire in May, and was wondering the same thing about the multiple tanks ... glad to know we don't have to run and get a refill after every dive!!
