Aaron, go to the bottom of this page and do a "keyword" search for Montego Bay Airport and it will give you some information. Someone at some point did post a map of the airport. It is small, and the chairs are pretty uncomfortable. It's also not air conditioned so it can get warm at times. There are some shops on the lower level if you want to do a little shopping (I mean like 3 or 4 shops, very small)...

We fly out of Newark of Philly and the layover is very short. We have just enough time to use the restroom (not bad), get some rum and have a drink. You can enjoy Margaritaville (nice little restaurant, but expensive) or you can sit up stairs and have a beer at one of the little stands. Hey Cynde, I haven't found an airport that has comfortable seats yet. Oh and if you can hold your breath a bit, or don't mind, the smoking lounge on the upper floor (they have a good filtration system, so the smoke is not bad at all, but it does smell a little smoky) and a bar and AIR CONDITIONING! They also have televisions there too. Ok take care.

You can pretty much see from one end to the other-it's really not that large. There are a few (?) gate(s) on the lower level where the shops are, but I've seen that area used for the larger european flights. Most times I've flown through there, Bonaire's connection has been near Margaritaville, whose barstools are way more comfortable than the airport seats. Actually, I'm just guessing here-I've never sat down in Mo'bay public areas. However, I do know that along the hallway leading to Margaritaville is where the a/c is best.

Just be careful to check the monitors and ask what time it is there when you land--Jamaica seems to have its own time zone; you think you have only 5 min to connect, but it's really 1:05, or 2:05...I've never figured it out. And if they announce flights, it's hard to hear and not frequent--boarding happens real fast (sorry to all those on the flights in the past who've had a flight held up b/c of me-curly red hair & freckles, gasping & not looking poised while running across the tarmac w/AJ flight attendent scolding me).

Yeah, the PA system at MoBay is absolutely impossible to hear. On our way back through earlier this month, there was a woman running around with a portable microphone & speaker, announcing flights, but I think she was only announcing one specific flight.

Best bet, near as we were able to figure out, is to wander down to the general neighborhood of where your flight leaves from, and hang out watching the AJ staff at the gate. When they start letting people through the gate, just verify that it's for your flight, and get in line...

There's no airconditioning? I guess the wogga and xanex work better than I thought. :-)

I think they now have air conditioning in the main terminal. They have made some improvements there in the last year. I have been in Montego when there was not AC, and it was pretty bad. However, they do have it now, or at least they did last month. Cynde, you are just a hot blooded diva anyway. You would melt the frozen food at Cultimara!!!

Jim, you got that right! Funny you should say that...the heat in our office building has been pretty much non-existent, and of course, I have been in heaven and quite comfy the last few weeks while my co-workers have been whining incessantly about "freezing to death." I should send them out your way so they can experience "real cold." Since I seem to be the one that always has to make the calls to the building manager, I've called 3 times in the last week to shut my co-workers up and give me some peace. The guy is here right now working on it, and it appears, that indeed, the heat system is malfunctioning and we are only getting cold air (to my glee). Unfortunately, I fear that when he leaves I will begin to "glow" once more:-( BTW, did ya hear that Ms. Lott broke some ribs? Slipped on some ice on her front porch and down she went...was probably the brim from her purple hat getting in her way....

Cynde...off subject, but what ever happened to the situation at work with the odors and vapors getting into the building and all of the digging they were doing outside the building?? Your last post reminded me of that mess from a few months ago! Carole

If your plane is late at Montego Bay- get ready to run !! you'll exit the plane off a ramp old style and go right down to ground level on the airstrip, then you'll go about 50-100 yards or so to the actual airport building structure. Once you get inside, you'll see people running everywhere !! (trying to catch their planes). But there are very helpful Air Jamaica folks, who are there and they'll tell you what gate to go to (run to). Just don't be afraid to stop and ask where a particular gate is, if you can't find it.
or you don't know what gate your connection is at. We didn't find our gates by looking at any TV monitor, but by asking the Air Jamaica people who were in the airport (while we were running). No worries though, they'll ( hopefully ) hold the plane for you till you get there.

Brian,
You brought up a very good point that is rarely mentioned about the AJ airport. There are always many friendly airline workers there to help and guide you to your gate and they are not behind counters. You don't find that at Logan!
