Have any of you found a gadget for putting suntan lotion on your back? I'm pretty flexible, but there's that 2 inch space that I just can't reach!

Any suggestions?

That's what friends are for! :-)
But a gadget would come in handy.

Coppertone Sport Spray, & practice (bend at waist, hold spray up/back over head/shoulders, if done right, spray will fall onto that hard to reach center back, but it is best to do this before you leave room, this is not the most graceful motion...). It's n/a here, gotta byo--it's in a blue pump bottle, is not greasy & is water proof & sweat proof. Good stuff--trust me on this one, I'm a red-head, living here over 13 years w/o burning--I owe it all to diligence & Coppertone #30.

Something else to consider is the product itself. There is a lot going on now with "environmentally friendly" suntan products. A lot of the current products take weeks to breakdown and block some of the filtering of sunlight to the reef, and if they are oil base products, they will leave a film at the surface (think about when you've been to a public pool in the summer and the film that is on the surface by the end of the day:-(). There are more eco friendly products coming on the market, the thing to look for is a "biodegradable" product. Caribbean Pacific Natural Products are supposed to biodegrade in 5 days or less. I haven't tried the product yet (but intend on switching), but it's something to think about:-)

Thank you all for your advice (and the chuckles!).

This is my first trip to Bonaire, and my first trip out of the states. I'm going over my lists of what to bring -- btw, your chats have helped greatly!! -- and the 'spray' suntan lotion idea is terrific. I'll look for it online - and I'll practice - lol.

Interesting ideas, but wouldn't it be more fun to look for the cutest guy on the boat or beach or around the pool and ask him to put the lotion on for you? Just a thought... :-)

-- update --

I've found some biodegradable lotions(thanks for the tip Cynde), I've included the links in case someone else asks:

Nature's Gate - this one's a SPRAY:
http://www.internatural-alternative-health.com/ingr/ingr250897.cfm

Caribbean Pacific:
http://www.cpskincare.com/index.php

Mother Nature: http://www.mothernature.com/shop/detail.cfm/sku/54389

Well, that's a start - I'm sure there are more to choose from. Hopefully by my next trip I will have a 'friend' to help with the application! And as for the shower curtain, well... lol

Thanks again for your ideas!

Be aware, a thin wet white t-shirt (while of great visual imaging for some men...) in a practical sense is only about equal to a spf 8-10--if you're a snorkeler, this matters a great deal; wear a dark color/thicker T if you're counting on sun protection.

Similar to Joe's suggestion what I do to get the lotion on my back is squirt some on the wall and just back up to it and wiggle it in. Downside is the place you are staying end tends to throw you out after 2 or 3 times of this. Not sure why

"How many chatters does it take to put suntan lotion on?"

5...2 to decide if it is the right SPF...1 to decide if it's biodegradable and safe for the reef...1 to find the right position for the chatter to lay whilst being lathered...and 1 to "moderate" the entire event:-)

Seb, Wally and Ruth...LOL!

Kelly, no doubt you will take the shirt right off his back to rub lotion on HIS back:-) (and keep the shirt...tee hee)

Do a "google" search for "suntan lotion applicator". There are a number of products for self application of lotion.

Bob, very interesting...I like the "stick a sponge on the end of a hanger"...but I still think that some of the other ideas were pretty good too:-) hee hee

Just to add my 2 cents...I've switched to wearing a skin whenever I'm in the sun.....no need to reach those hard to get spots and there are no environmetnal repurcussions...:-) Already have a lifetime supply of sun damage from the environmentally unfriendly lotions, etc. Good luck! :-)
