Well, I am trying to talk Mom into trying Bonaire ONE more time.

Her only requirement is a sandy bottom beach. I know of Divi but what is the bottom of the Harbor Village beach like? It's a man made beach ya??

Annie

THANKS

That sounds great, Annie! I hope Mom does return and has a great time. I only know the Divi beach, but I know someone will jump in here about the Harbour Village shortly! You GO, Mom!! Carole

When we were at Harbour Village last (about three years ago) the portion of Harbour Village's beach closest to La Balandra had a sandy bottom, but the bulk of their beach from water's edge in is coral ruble. The La Balandra portion is sandy as deep as one can walk (or wade) and was very nice for strolling into the water. The entire beach was very nice for snorkeling and walking.

Hope you can convince your mom to go, but I do not believe you can use the Harbour Village beach unless you are staying there.

BTW, if I recall correctly, the entry portion of Plaza's beach has a reasonably sandy bottom (but not like you have on Cape Cod or most of the Atlantic Coast beaches in the US).

Hi Ann.

If your mom can handle a small climb down to the beach....Jeff Davis has a sandy bottom and is a BEAUTIFUL spot...pretty shallow a ways out(to about the hip - I'm 5'4") and great snorkeling/swimming. Check it out for yourself to see if it'll be o.k. My mom did great there and it turned out to be her favorite spot. Plus, it's pristine and private.

Good luck :-)
Annette

Annie,

You are not going to believe this, but when we were in Bonaire end of May, beginning of June the beach at Lighthouse has gone from coral bottom to VERY soft sand bottom, I would say probably about 10 to 20 feet out. If you want to come over while we are down and check it out, please do. I think your Mom will enjoy it. It is the beach area in front of the townhouses. Of course as you know, not everyone is allowed to use the beach, just residents and invited questes, and of course you are ALWAYS invited.
Liz

Could you please tell me where is, and to get to, Jeff Davis beach?

Thank you.

Jeff Davis is one of the dive sites north of Oil Slick Leap which is, I assume, what Annette is referring to. Have not been to that site in two years so can't comment on the bottom.

Hi Charles and Susan.

Yes, Jeff Davis is North of Oil Slick Leap. Once you go over the small hump in the road (as you go north on the ocean-side road...by the way did ya'll know this road was actually commissioned by the Queen of Holland..it used to go all the way south before the Sabadeco development...), anyway, once you cross over the "hump" Jeff Davis is the first site you come to marked by the ever popular yellow rock :-) There is a small parking spot on the right (ocean to your left). Take the trail to the right and you'll see an area which drops down to the ocean...people have arranged rocks as steps down. It's a great site to swim, snorkel and dive. One of my favorites, specifically cuz I like to get my toes in the sand every so often!
Enjoy !

PS...I have to clarify here....the ocean bottom is sandy and it is also nicely sloped/shallow. However, there is only a small spot of sand at the shore (except during low tide - then a little larger area just to the south of the same strip of coast). So anyone looking for a sandy beach to kind of use to "lay-out" and catch some rays would be disappointed. For this you might try heading out to the South as far as Jibe City...Vista Blue is nice too.

There are several dive sites in the south that have small sandy beaches...vista blue and sweet dreams...

Divi has one of the nicer beaches...small but calm water, good snorkling...great scenery

Gregg, are you romping around with your KLM Captains hat on again??? LOL. A Miller Lite in one hand and the Captain's Hat in the other....I don't know if everyone out there will understand/appreciate what you mean by "scenery"! LOL. Carole

Annie-
You can buy daily beach use at Harbour Village. Don't quote me, but it's ike $15/day and they do not offer weekly or monthly passes, just daily. I inquired a few months ago.

Hi all, another sandy beach, which has pretty easy access is Batchelor's Beach, with steps down and a railing and a nice little spit of sand with a rock wall to lean against. Getting in there, though, can be a bit tricky as there is a a slight dip from shore covered with coral rubble. Since I just bought a house in Belnem just a few steps away from BB, I will be spending my happy hours there. Hope to see you! pauline
