Just wondering what the wine selection is like in Bonaire. We are coming from California and are kind off spoiled on wine selections. Does anyone know how much we can (smuggle) er, bring in to the country. Thanks, Mike & Cathy

Mike, you won't see the usual brands we have here (I'm from California too)...We've never smuggled any down due to the lack of space in the luggage by the time we get everything in. They do have a good selection of wines however, but they are a little more expensive than here (cheapest bottle for an OK wine is about 8 or 9 bucks). I say throw caution to the wind and don't take any down, and sample wines of differnet varieties! There are some good ones:-)

Not that "I" would ever do it, but if you are traveling thru Jamaica (we fly on Air Jamaica and have a stopover in Montego Bay), the liquor prices are outrageous. They have this coconut rum cream (Bailey's ish cept rum and coconut) that goes great in coffee that seems to sneak into our carryons in some volume). Not that I would ever sneak liquor into another country, nossirree

enjoy
joe

Mike and Cathy, check out the website of the local wine retailer. I too was interested in what I could get there, so I copied their list and went to my local wine store to see if they had any from the list. I have found a few so far, so we are sampling before we get there. www.antilleanwine.com P.S.they deliver!!!

We ordered wine from the Antillean wine company and it was all excellent, even the wine at the cheap of the list. The service was great, the wine arrived before we did at Lions Dive and they collected the payment after delivery!!! We were very impressed and will do it again. We have no connection with the company, we just like wine a lot!

And no one mentioned the fact that Capriccio reportedly has the best whine cellar in the whole Caribbean?

Yes, I second the notion of the Capriccio connection. We just had our second two week trip trip to Bonaire and ate there several times each visit. Their list is extensive and they are able to guide you toward your preferences and budget. Each time there we have splurged and ordered great wines, only to be so captured by them that we return to Colorado and try to find them locally.....so far only two out of six can be purchased here. Happy exploring to you.
