Good Morning everybody. This is my first e-mail. This sunday I will be leaving for Bonaire to get married, for my vacation and for my honeymoon. I'm so excited. 11/11 will be the day at 5 pm. I have lived on Bonaire so this is my second home. After the ceremony we will eat at It Rains fishes by Joep en Ed. Of course we will have bolo pretu as a wedding cake.
Oke, 3 more days te work and then I can pack!
Bonaire, here I come!!!

HOW WONDERFUL.

Tell me more about this Bolo Pretu? In West Indian islands they make Black Cake for the holidays. Months before we would soak fruit in very dark rum and let it mascerate (sp?)..then bake it with dark treacle syrup and more..hmmmmmmmmmm...where can I get some in Bonaire Rasja??

Happy nuptials..wish I could be there to watch!

Hello Ann,
About the bolo pretu. It's the same recipe as you describe. Unfortunately you can not buy bolo pretu in a supermarket or elsewhere. A local woman is making the cake for me. I think it's rather easy to make the cake yourself, surf the internet looking for 'bolo pretu' and you find a lot of recipes.

My son is marrying a West Indies girl in 5 weeks, and her relatives are bringing "black cake" from St Vincent as well as having our taditional wedding cake. New to me, but we'll learn something new!

Hallo Martin,

Even in het Nederlands.
Daarna eten bij It rains fishes.
