My wife and I and 4 others will be staying at the Divi Flamingo this Dec 7 thru 14. We usually take something to give to the maids and the dive crew as gifts. Is there something that has been found to be appreciated. When we went to Club Med at San Salavador - chocolate candy was a great gift. It was too expensive to buy there. We would bring in bags of it and it was gone in no time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The dive shop at Buddy Dive likes a case of beer.

I stay at Divi, timeshare, and we tip the maid $15 a week, at least. There's no substitute for money, and in the US the going rate is $3-5 a night at a hotel. I asked around the front desk once, and they said 25 guilders would be considered good, altho they were very hesitant to state any amount. It seems to me that giving beer or presents has no assurance of being of value, which is the idea. Not to mention lugging home cases of beer on check-out day.

We usually give the ladies $20.00 per week and they get all the leftover goodies in the fridge IF they want them...canned foods and all sorts of things...IF they want it. Otherwise it is given to another buddy of ours or tossed out. Money is always a great thing for everyone...can do whatever they need to do with it that way. If we need something done while we are there and the maintenance fellows come out to see us we give them $5.00 or so, too. I do not believe it is expected, mind you, we just like to let them know we do appreciate their assistance. We have had several folks who would not accept anything at all, which is sweet, too. Definitely a beautiful bunch of folks on Bonaire. Carole

I'm sure you guys are right about those places. We asked at Buddy Dive (before they were sold last year) and the staff uniformly said "no tips!" But the dive staff said any beer we had left they'd love. I think they said they preferred either Polar or Amstel Bright (I can't remember which) and we were very happy to accomodate.

Thanks for the responses. Like it was stated by some - money is always appreciated. I was just curious if there was something that could be given in addition to the tip as extra token of appreciation. Thanks again for the responses.
