Adriaan, thank you for your kind words. America is strong, and we will stand together through this with our allies.

Adriaan,

Thanks very much for your support - every bit helps and is needed. It's been tough going, but we're hanging in there. I suspect yesterday's events will haunt many of us for the rest of our lives.

Thanks again,

Jake

Adriaan,

Thank you for your support and the support of the great Kingdom of the Netherlands.

I posted the below in another thread but thought I would post it here as well. Hope you don't mind Jake.

"Been sitting here reading posts on this board and others trying to decide in my own mind what would be right or wrong. Who really knows? I do know that "surgical stikes and assinations" can work and have worked on many occassions, more than most people are aware of. However, as successful as these missions have been in the past, this terrible tragedy still happened. While I agree we can't just go in with guns blazing at the present time, we don't even know for sure who the mastermind was, when the investigation is complete and the people (and I use that term loosely), organizations and yes, even countries that had any connection with or provided support to this enemy of all civil law abiding people all over the world should be erradicated from the face of this planet.

To use an analogy, think of when a starfish looses an arm, another one will grow back in its place, it looses another one, another one will grow back in its place and so on and so on. Not until the entire organism is destroyed will the arms not grow back.

While I do not live in the US, I am PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. My sympathy goes out to the families and survivors of all those who lost their dreams, aspirations, hopes and desires and even their lives in yesterdays carnage. Being an ex-firefighter/paramedic, I especially want to offer my heartfelt sympathy to the families of the many firefighters, paramedics, police officers and other rescue workers who lost their lives trying to save others. To those of us left behind to carry on, KEEP THE FAITH AND GOD BLESS AMERICA AND HER ALLIES.

Jake, sorry but I had to ramble a little bit too.

As Hugh was watching the news last night, I realised how strong I too have to be right now. He has so many memories of the years he spent working at One WTC.. and he's finding it hard to deal with/accept this tragedy. Some relief has come from NY to say that most of his colleagues did get out alive, (thank God).. but one has still not been accounted for. As for friends, still no word yet, but here's hoping... Here in Britain, though we know we are far away, our thoughts are with the State of New York, and for all American people wherever they are in the World.

I hope very much that yesterday's events will not cause the Americans to fight back in haste, as much as it's tempting to do so.. I believe that we must find the "root" of the problem first and then eradicate it..

Jake, you're right, yesterday's events will haunt us all for the rest of our days.. but I know that the American people will pick up the pieces and start over again.. Life does go on, it must.. but we will never forget...S

Sarah, comfort and listen to Hugh, I am sure just being there for him is of great comfort him. I hope the one unaccounted for is soon. On Larry King Live last night, a fellow who was in a nearby building came on and wanted to show a picture of his life-long friend who was on the 102nd floor, and asked that if anyone had seen him to contact CNN...my heart just aches...

Cynde, thank you for your kind words. Sadly, we have just been told that there are, in fact, more of Hugh's colleagues missing.. I know that it will be days/weeks before we have any idea who they are.. I hope the fellow on Larry King's show gets better news..S

This is dedicated to you Americans. See first message. We in Holland will not forget when we were in trouble (second world war) that you supported us very much. So it is clear that we want to do something (a little bit) back.
BTW: a Dutch friend of my is going to mary a American girl. They're living in New Jersey. She is working in the WTC and her company runs on two floors. (53 and 99) I visited them a few months ago. Because of a delay of 5 minutes (..)in Metro traffic she survived. She was half way when the second plane crashed. She could run back in time.
So only her colleagues from the 53rd floor survived.
