Ellen, I had it done last year, my doctor (and all the recommendations) said no diving for a month after surgery. Once the flap is healed you'll be good to go, the pressure is not an issue as the eye is not very compressable. You will find that this was the best thing you ever did for yourself, almost a year later and I still walk around amazed that I can see without glasses.

I had it done last April and went diving end of May and had no problems other than replacing the corrective lens in my mask..With the dry heat and wind in Bonaire be sure to take plenty of moisture eye drops to keep your eyes from drying out. That will most likely be your biggest concern.

A lot of people here on Bonaire had laser surgery including myself in Caracas, Venezuela. There they told us not to dive for two months. Maybe you ask at your dive shop if one of the instructors had any experience with laser surgery.

If I were you I would call DAN Insurance and ask to speak to one of the doctor's who deal with this. I had my eyes done in July 2000 and was told no diving for 1-2 months, that one month was enough for the flap to heal, but if I felt more comfortable then 2 months. My doctor is very careful about recommendations - for example - no hot tubs or swimming pools for one month, no make up for one month, etc.

I had the sugery done in May and 32 days later I was diving in Bonaire. No problems whatsoever. I did double check with my doctor and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Go for it!!
