Ive tried to use my Royal Bank ATM card in the U.S. a few times with no success (not recently, but....) and I wonder if anyone can confirm that Bonaire ATM's will accept my card? Lisa, did you try this?

Thanks! Deb

I can confirm that my US ATM card works in Canada (a Royal Canadian Bank even)and in various Bonaire ATMS. I was in Canada a week ago using a Royal Canadain branch ATM and in Bonaire a few months ago using two or three different ATMs. They all worked.

I think it is "Cirrus" that works.

Deb,

Have you checked with your Canadian bank? They should be able to tell you what to expect where.

And some of the Bonaire banks have web sites that should define what cards they accept.

Hi Deb: I've used my Canadian ATM bank card (Interac RBC card) on Bonaire (and Curacao) with no problems over a number of visits. Best part of using the ATM by the Cultimara grocery store is getting a choice of Papiamentu, Dutch or English to do your transaction in, and a choice of NAF guilders or US$ as a final result.

Deb, I second Fiona message. I also used my Scotia Bank card at the ATM by the Cultimara several times with no problem ( I have also used it in Cabo San Lucas). Bonaire was the first trip that I didn't take travellers checks with me and i was a bit nervous, but we had other backup cards but didn't have to use them. Have a backup ATM card and leave it in your room safe in case your other card gets demagnatized.

Hi Canucks!

Yes, I used my Bank of Montreal card and it worked fine.

Just check the back of your card, it should say something like "Plus" system or "Cirrus" these are major Banking Networks and as long as you can find ATMS with these symbols. You should be okay.

You can also let your bank know that you are going away before you leave. Sometimes they will block your card if there are unusual charges from unusual places!

Good luck and one more thing: take me with you?

Lisa in Mtl

Deb, never mind. I see only 6 more sleeps so have an awesome time and don't forget to wave to us at the cams. We expect a full report when you return.
