We don't have kids of our own, but watching what Jake and Linda did with their two kids when they were little, I think it's safe to say there are no requirements for car seats of any sort on the island.

Hi Greg! Coming from a mom of a 2 year old, I think you might feel better if your kids were in their car seats, especially the 2 year old. Some of the roads can be quite bumpy. However, I don't think there is a law in Bonaire requiring children to ride in car seats. Yes, it sounds like a lot of trouble lugging the car seats to the airport but I think you'll feel better about it in the long run. The kids might feel comfortable too, having a familiar piece of equipment. Besides, I've heard if you let them ride out of their carseats once, they'll want to keep doing it. You might have a difficult time getting them to cooperate once back home.

I hope this helps! Have a great time!

We were in Bonaire Feb03 with our 5-year old. He did not ride in a car seat and was OK. He could just see out the windows of the truck. For a 2-yr old, I would probably go with the car seat or a full height booster seat, so they can see out of the car and probably use it on the plane.

I would recommend a bag sold by Right Start that is designed for car seats (I just checked & it's still available on their website for $29.95), it has a shoulder strap which makes it easy to tote the seat around the airport or if you don't want to use it on the plane it protects the seat in the baggage hold.

PS - I live in NJ where kids must be in car seats or boosters until they hit 80# or 8 yrs old, so my son was a bit nervous not being in his car seat for the trip.

Ditto on the car seat bag! Great suggestion Sue! I have friends who use theirs a lot and really like it.
