My boyfriend and I will be visiting Bonaire from 12/2 - 12/16. Is there anything we could bring with us for the shelter?

Hi Sue, you and John have been so generous already and you are still willing to help...you guys are great!!! Off the top of my head I can think of a couple things. A few months ago one of our volunteers donated two "crinkle" sacks to the cats (those cloth tubes that make a noise like a bag when the cats are in them) and you would have thought we gave those cats a million bucks! They love them! Needless to say, daily use by sixteen to twenty cats has taken its toll on the sacks! So if you happen to see any of those, they would be appreciated (and they are light weight and collapsible for luggage purposes!). Always need hard rubber toys for the dogs and toys for the cats. I will check with the shelter staff next week to see what other small items may be needed, and post again. Thank you again for your generosity in the past and your willingness to continue to help.

My husband and I will be visiting from Nov 25-Dec 4 and are huge animal lovers and already have a trip to the shelter to hang out with some cats and dogs planned. We would also love to bring a few new things to donate. Please let us know if there is anything in particular they need. If not we will grab a mix of toys that our dogs and cat seem to like. Thanks!

Jenn and Derek, Thanks for the offer and your generosity...and please do make that visit. A mix of toys would be great and maybe some new brushes for dogs and cats. Thanks again!

Jennifer, you will love the shelter. It is by far one of the most clean, well run, and nicest shelter's I've ever seen. And those animals are very loved and well cared for. The volunteers work very very hard (in that heat!). Buy a t-shirt while you are there:-):-):-)

Great! We will definitly make the trip and bring some goodies... We have to leave our "children" (2 dogs, 1 cat, and fish) at home so it will be a great treat for us. I am just worried I will be coming home with a new "child".

Mare, Thankfully fleas are not a big problem here on Bonaire...we mostly have to deal with ticks (but gratefully not the lyme disease carrying ticks!)We use topical or ingestible medications for the ticks. Thanks for inquiring.

What medications is the shelter in need of? Coming from Canada I may not have access to the same brands as you are use to from the US. I understand you are treating more for ticks than for fleas? I don't know what diseases you are seeing transmitted from the ticks.

Jim and Jane-

I am in the process of planning our next trip this fall back to Bonaire. My husband and I visited last year and brought some toys and brushes for the the animals at the shelter. Unfortunatly we waited until the last day of our trip which I believe was a Sunday to visit and the Shelter was not opened. We put the toys etc.. in a plastic bag and dropped them what I hopped was your mailbox. This was the early part of December so I wouldn't be surprized if you do not remember... We would love to make a visit this fall and bring some more stuff. From the outside your shelter looked so wonderful. I wanted to take all the dogs I saw home with me!! I will be in touch as our trip nears to see if you need anything in particular.

Jenn and Derek,
We thought Santa Claus brought those things! A very belated thank you! Hope you can find the time to visit this fall. We are open Monday thru Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Please let me know when you're trip is closer and will keep you informed of any needs we have. Thank you again for your support of our shelter.

Kobi, Oh boy, it's Christmas in July for the critters! I work on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8 a.m. until about 10 a.m. Thursdays are best for visitors, can you make it on the 26th...if not, just let me know when and we'll arrange it. Thanks so much for your kindness.
Jane
