I see that Dec 10-17 the "King of the Caribbean PWA World Championship Freestyle Finals will be in Bonaire - how many people will this bring to the island? How busy was the island last year during the event?

It was a great event. Even with more people on island, it is not too noticeable. It may be a bit hard to find a rental car or you may have to make a dinner reservation a bit earlier, but never masses of people.....

From an organizers perspective, the greatest impact is exactly as Michael shared, rental cars and also the airport on specific arrival and departure dates was a little frenetic, mostly for me trying to coordinate gear transport. There are 5 nights of parties at designated spots so one can avoid those or join in. Most of the guests who came were not spectators but competitors. We hope to see more visitors this year. Unlike other PWA events, it's not so easy to get to this one. In Italy and Spain and Cape Cod one can drive to watch but here it is a costly venture for a spectator.
Windsurfers who happened to be on island or planned it, had a blast. It was incredible to mix and mingle with the best in the world. And most of all to see the Bonaire guys show their stuff.

We have a video for sale if anyone is interested? The premier was at Bongos Sat. night.

Does anyone have any current news on the status of the event? I have been searching the internet and can not find any information for the 2003 event, only last years. I'd like to come and watch but aren't sure of dates and if it is even happening.

Hi John,

There was a press release about a week ago........new dates for this year are 2-9 December. I'm sure Ann Phelan will post more information as it is available, or write her at ann@bonairewindsurfing.com. She was just traveling from Bonaire back up to Cape Code this week, which might explain her absence from the group for a few days.

Susan
