Are you asking about a cruising cat or a beach cat? There are 3 or 4 beach cats at the Kas De Regatta depending on the time of year. One is a club boat and the others are private. One is a Hobie 16, I don't know about the others. I have a Sunfish at the club and an F31 Corsair trimaran in the States. CaribJim

You don’t seem to be getting any replies to your question. There are always many cruising cats on-the-hook along the shoreline of Bonaire at any given time. If you want to use a boat like a camper bus, (not much fun to drive or sail, but great for living space) then a cruising cat should be great. We recently became diving buddies and friends with a couple that purchased their cruising cat in Barbados (from an internet ad) about 4 years ago. They were not sailors before they purchased the boat and during the 4 years they had owned it, they had stayed in many of the Windward / Leeward islands and finally made it over to Bonaire where they had stayed for 9 months. In other words they had done almost no sailing but a lot of on-the-hook visits at various islands. Nothing wrong with that.
On the other hand, if you enjoy sailing for the pure sense of sailing, you may be disappointed with a cruising cat. Like Columbus’ fleet of boats, these things go downwind nicely and reach nicely, but they don’t go to windward worth a darn. If your destination is straight upwind, you’re probably going to have to motor or wait for a better day, because otherwise it may take forever to get there. There are, of course, many large cats that will go upwind very well using dagger boards, but the typical cruising cat with their typical shallow draft keels leave a lot to be desired from that standpoint. But if you are more like the above couple, who cares. CaribJim
