Hello

My client wants to rent a catamaran. Is there any places that will allow this or have small catamaran's?

The only sailing rentals we've been able to get have been sunfish, and that wasn't easy to find. We were told that there were people renting boats who didn't know what they were doing and ending up halfway to Curacao, so the places that used to have sailboat rentals (I never saw anything but privately-owned catamarans, by the way) dropped the business.

If anyone knows anything different, they'll no doubt speak up. But the lack of response to your post on such a helpful board should tell you something... :-)

You could try posting on other boards, as well.

Early in my visits to Bonaire I borrowed Black Durgon's Sunfish for a few hours. BD's owner had a dive boat in the water at that time, and he was nervously standing by, expecting to have to rescue me from Klein Bonaire. I had a couple of decades of small boat sailing experience by that time and I did bring the boat back to the dock by myself, but it was no fun. The constant wind was, indeed, trying to blow me to Klein and beyond, to Curacao. There are many places where it's great to sail, but Bonaire just isn't one of them, I believe.

Based on observation (not personal experience - I have a "bad back"), the popularity of board sailing (windsurfing) on Bonaire is well-deserved. The strong, constant winds are great for the boards, and at Lac Bay they're blowing on shore. If you get tired, there's a whole island keeping you from blowing to Curacao!

David (who does his winter sailing in the British Virgin Islands, where you can find some snorkeling, but nothing to compare with Bonaire)

The BSSA is the only sailingschool at the moment who seems to rent out sailingboats. (I work there as one of the two instructors). we have sunfishes, splashes, a laser and a hobycat 15. The last one is without a fronsail at the moment. We're waiting for a new one... The only problem is that i don't have much time besides my normal job. maybe my college. Look on the internet for http://www.bonairesailingschool.com/
