Okay, before anyone goes berserk on me I am writing this as my opinion and observation. I'm doing it so people who have a real interest in kitesurfing have a little information from an unbiased person.

I will say I am not a kitesurfer, yet! I am a long time visitor to Bonaire, a diver and a snorkeler. Having said all that I went to check out the kitesurfing with my family and was absolutely mesmerized! Myself, husband and kids were amazed at the kitesurfers and I have to thank Stefan (sp) for a very nice explanation. He was patient and answered a LOT of questions! I wanted to go back and give it a try but ran out of time, I promise to next visit! The sport is like any other, the more you do it, the better you get. I would love to see it, if it isn't already featured on the X games, that would be cool! For those of you who already love the sport go for it, for those of you who are curious check it out, I think you'll be amazed. And for those of you who hate it for whatever reason, I hope that you will at least check it out, talk to one of the guys and wait to form a opinion based on your own observations and experience. Oh, and as an added bonus, he sees dolphins pass through almost daily! This is not meant to spark attacks on anyone or anything so please keep that in mind if you feel like responding.Peace.

Be prepared to take lessons and invest a LOT of time in learning...take it from one who knows.

Roseanne, while you will never see me on a board (sails aren't big enough), I too love watching the Kitesurfers enjoying their sport.

Welcome home!

Ron, I suspect I will need a great amount of instruction! From what I can tell it's sort of like snow boarding, which I am getting better and better at. Tom, the sails are huge! (not implying you are, LOL!) But it was fun just watching. Stefan told me the guys who were out there the day we were there were very experienced and made it look easy.I still want to give it a try!

Rosanne, we have quite a few kitesurfers here on the So Cal coast. They are simply amazing to watch. I don't think that people (divers) hate the sport, or the individuals who participate, it's the conflict over sharing the same waters...and the possibility of injury. I admire you for wanting to take the sport up...you go girlfriend!

If you have the chance it is a lot easier to learn the basics on dry land in the snow or on a frozen lake. Once you have that down it makes moving to the deep water easier. Good luck from a diver, windsurfer, and new kiter.
