Bon Bini,

It's the first time I write on 'Bonaire Talk' web site and also it's the first time my wife and I we are going to Bonaire late April. We are soo excited to be there based on people comments.

I windsurfing for almost 15 years and I visited few web sites, including both windsurf places for rental equipment at Lac Bay. I wonder should I bring my own harness? Which one of these 2 places should I rent? Any other recommendations that I should be aware, beside the sunscreen?

Thank you in advance for your answers

Richard & Christine

Hello Richard and Christine,

Please bring your own harnesses and rash guards and booties. Both shops are great:

Jibe City has Hi Fly and Gaastra and Bonaire Windsurf Place has Hot Sails and RRD/Starboard and a few other boards.

If you want more info contact me so I can tell you all about our site. I just came off the water from an hour sesh, solid 4.2 but I sailed a 4.7 WAY overpowered.

Annie

You need to take your own harness. It is a matter of personal preference which place you rent from. Both places are very good. We have used Jibe City for the last 13 years and have kept going back. Windsurfing Place was not even there when we started going to Boniare. One of the reasons we like Jibe City is that you do not have to windsurf every day. Being older, we like to take a day off now and then to rest up. Both places are right beside each other on the beach and now have great places to have lunch.

Welcome to BT. Bring lots of sunscreen. We wear lycra dive skins to keep the sun off and don't forget a hat as the sun is intense.

Thank you both of you for the reply.

Annie you recommended 'rash guard' I not sure about this word Is that equivalent to sunscreen or ?..... I see that you suggest also 'booties' which I do bring rarely (only when it's not sandy).

Thanks again

A rash guard is like a lycra shirt long or short sleeves instead of a full lycra suit. We wear booties but a lot of people don't. There are still a lot of things on the bottom. Have a great time.

Can someone tell me if Jibe City is the only place that allows (I'll call them) 'flex days' where blocks of days bought together can be used in a non-consecutive fashion? Although I'm not a huge fan of Gaastra, I really do like the idea of not having to use all your sailing days in a row.

The last block of days I bought from Vela, I ended up not sailing probably 4 days out of the two week block. It's unrealistic to think that a sailor coming from cold weather, unsailable conditions will be able to sail every single day in 90 degree heat right off the plane. Much as I'd like that to be true, it isn't.

Jibe City is the only shop allowing non consecutive day rentals.
