My fiance and I will making our first trip to Bonaire in 2 weeks, and was wondering if anyone has advice on how to protect belongings while out surfing.

The first week on island, we will be staying at Kontiki, the second week at Sun Oceanfront Apartments, and our gear is being rented from Bonaire Windsurf Place.

I am concerned after reading some many posts regarding theft...

Do you have any other advice for first timers?

Congratulations on choosing Bonaire, an experience you will cherish forever. PBD is a real thing, and it doesn't go away for a loooooooong time...unless you return to Bonaire for a "fix" regularly.

Theft of unprotected items from rental vehicles appears to be an ongoing problem. Keep valuables locked in your room when possible. At either Jibe City or The Windsurf Place, they will be glad to look after your wallet in the rental hut, while you sail.

Most businesses are very professional and will accommodate you any way they can. As in the US, most of the problem stems from minors who work the system and a few crooked adults who profit from their misdeeds.

I hope you and your fiance' can relax and enjoy the magic of Bonaire without too much worry and with no unpleasant occurrences!
