Would like to hear from those who have stayed at Port Bonaire or Plaza Resort. We are considering week #2 at Port Bonaire, having reserved Plaza for week #1....specifically would like to know about location of 2 bedroom units and/or Beach house(s),view of ocean, noise, etc. Thanks so much!

I love BOTH Plaza and Port Bonaire. I stayed at Plaza in a marina front suite (fabulous) and a Grande Suite on the beach (even nicer). Port Bonaire is super..my fav of all but there is noise from the airport. I actually liked it..it was like an alarm clock of sorts. I also must say I wake at the drop of a pin.

:-)

Port Bonaire is getting out of the resort business, preferring to rent long term only.

I don't know where you got that info Michael, but I seriously doubt that's true (in fact, I know it's not). Most of those condos are privately owned and the owners will want to keep using them themselves, too.
They are looking for a new format though, that much is obvious.

It is Caribbean Court that wants to go long term rental.

I'll give my opinion on Port Bonaire since we stayed there for 1 week the last week of March.
I believe it overpriced (about 300 per nite). We stayed in a 2 bedroom ground floor. The grounds and the buildings are beautiful but the unit we stayed in was somewhat run down/worn out. Furniture needed to be replaced, doors and woodwork was somewhat rotted. The kitched is sparsely stocked. The maid service was inferior. The beds were poor. Even the outside deck furniture was worn out(our porch furniture). The square footage of the unit was impressive. The pool area beautiful and clean. Usually in the middle of the nite we would hear the KLM land around 3 am. We didnt like that. We had twice previously stayed at Plaza in a waterfront Grand Suite. It was nice and roomy. Its drawbacks were.......a long walk from your car, no kitchen. We will find another place to stay next year. We definetly want waterfront, hopefully beachfront. Anyone out there got info on Bonaire Beach villas? We looked at them from the outside and liked the small beach and waterfront. Could not get info while there.

The info came from one of the soon to be laid off employees who was looking for a job and also one of the from one of the tenents. I think thatit may just be true, marc.

Cindy,

We have rented different apts on Bonaire (Coco Palms Garden, Caribbean Court, Light House Beach Resort, and Belmar). So far our favorite is Belmar. We did not like the on street parking but we thought that was the only drawback. There is a night watchman.

There is no beach.... but waterfront, waterfront, waterfront, galore. There are two piers for sunbathers and divers. There are not that many apts so we never felt crowded.

The sunset view is spectacular.

On our next trip to Bonaire we hope to host a BT sunset cocktail hour at Belmar.

Just my 2cents.

We have stayed at Port Bonaire several times anywhere from 10 days to 4 weeks. There are good things and bad things about the resort. Each unit is individually owned and there is some variablity in the way units are stocked and furnished. The top floor lofts are really nice and spacious though. Two years ago the noise from the planes weren't bad if you slept in the bedroom on the ocean side. This year in March, it seems the air traffic has increased a lot, but with ear plugs we weren't awaken by the plane at 3am. The grounds are very nice and there is usually no one at the pool. I think the view across the island from the units is wonderful. There is now a small dive shop there where you can get air tanks. All of this being said, when we return next month we are not staying there, but we are renting a house through Sun Rentals.

If you choose to stay there, go for unit A503 for a three bedroom, or get the last unit on the end away from the dive shop on the 2nd floor for a one bedroom.

From someone not laid off or looking for another job Port Bonaire is not going out of the resort business; quite the contrary......but that's for later.

Hello,
I was wondering if there is a dive shop or tanks provided at Port Bonaire. Also wondering about internet service for guests...if so what is the cost? Should we leave the laptop at home?? Cant wait to get there.....3 1/2 days and counting.

Thanks

neanie
