Is Harbour Village within walking distance to restaurants outside of this resort? Will be traveling with a 2 year old, have reserved our first week at Plaza....considering week 2 at Harbour Village.

I wouldn't say either location was especially convenient walking distance to outside restaurants with a 2 yr old. Plaza is about 300 yds (meters) to Richards (not my favorite) but only 100 yds to Old Inn (which I like). All others are 1.5 miles. Harbor Village may be 500-1000 yds from outside restaurants.

The walk just to get outside the resort can be very long if you're at the far end of it, and there are limited sidewalks in that area too. None from HVBR until north of circle where Lovers Ice Cream is, and a sidewalk to the end of the property going south, towards town, just past the Lighthouse Restaurant. The sidewalk from Lover's does go all the way to Habitat, and each resort there has a restaurant. People walk on the sides of the streets all the time, it just may not be smooth going with a stroller because it's dirt & rocks. From HVBR, a car is your best option.

Barbara -

We have stayed at the Plaza three times and we always have enjoyed the use of a rent car.

There are two restaurants at the Plaza and about a dozen or so in town and at other resorts; ranging from about a mile distant to three miles away. Then there are several good restaurants scattered around the island.

Not only will a car make all restuarants on the island more convenient, it will also be a great help in seeing the surprising variety that is on this small island.

We don't want to give a commercial plug, but if you'd like to know which rental company we've used, drop us an e-mail direct.

We walked once from Lion's Dive which is just a little north of Harbour Village. It was a pretty long walk, especially in the hot sun.

Spend the extra and rent a car. You'll be glad you did, and it will make it much easier to explore the island.

I would like to add that the car should definately have air conditioning. We once rented one without and will never make that mistake again. I think the Divi is one of the places you can stay and get away with not renting a car because of it's walking distance to town, but renting a car does give you a chance to see the sites and the flamingos too!
