My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Bonaire. Before we left, we anguished over where to say and finally decided on the Residence Windsock Apartments. I don't think anyone has reviewed these apartments, so for anyone who is interested, here is our review....

Firstly, the apartments are located just south of the Windsock dive site (Donkey Beach). They are on the main road (can't remember the name) across the street from the Bel Mar. The grounds are very well manicured with private gated parking, a small pool and a rinse area for dive gear. Jessica is the proprietor and she is extremely pleasant to deal with. The dive operator she uses for her packages is Photo Tours and the car company was Budget. We had a dive package that included 6 boat dives and unlimited shore diving. The rental car was an extended cab 4WD truck with the optional insurance included.

Ok, now on to the apartment. The apartment we had was an upstairs unit and it was large, clean and decorated very nicely! The units are brand new and very well laid out. Each apartment has a kitchen with a dishwasher, stove, microwave and ice maker refrigerator/freezer. There was no oven in our unit but we found no need for one. Each apartment has a balcony and an open air "porch". The walls of the main living area are actually giant sliding doors that open up completely. So, in effect, you can open your main living area to the balcony and porch (you can see it on their website). Anyway, it was wonderful for catching the breeze and cooling the apartment down. The bedrooms are separate from the main area and can be closed and locked separately. They are air conditioned if you like. There is a safe in the bathroom. All apartments are 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom units and can be rented as a one bedroom/1 bathroom unit as well. There is also another small room that we used for storing and drying out some of our dive gear.

Now, as I said, this was our first visit to Bonaire so I have nothing to compare this to but based on our other travels, I would say that this apartment is one of the nicest places we've stayed. As far as drawbacks, the apartments are very close to the airport and the air traffic noise is very loud. We are heavy sleepers so it was not a problem after we got used to it. But if you are a light sleeper or have trouble getting back to sleep, the location could be a drawback. Also, the closest dive operator was Photo Tours at the Caribbean Club. So, it required some planning on our part to make sure we weren't wasting time driving to the dive operator for air or other things. I thought the location was absolutely perfect because it was centrally located to both the south and north dive sites as well as the points of interest. We did talk to a couple from Buddy who chose Buddy because they had a house reef and because they felt places like Windsock were just too far from the northern dive sites. But I thought Windsock's location was more convenient if you wanted to dive both north and south sites. I guess it is just a matter of opinion.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
