Hello!

These boards are a wonderful resource, and I've enjoyed looking through the posts/archives looking for suggestions on accommodations.

My gentleman and I will be honeymooning in Bonaire between Oct. 7th and 17th. We are avid snorkelers and hikers- but not divers- so staying at a "dive place" is not what we're looking for at all. We'd just love to stay at a bed and breakfast type of place, even if it is inland- basically the opposite of a resort or a modern type place. I haven't found many suggestions of places like that- there is only one b&b listed in one of our travel books (the great escape). On top of this, we realize that we'll be there during the regatta! AcK!!!!! Any suggestions for us would be extremely appreciated. Thanks! -Jenny

Regatta is a blast...the night time entertainment is fun as well. Lucky you!! Congrats on your nuptials.

Too many choices for super accommodations.

:-)

BEL MAR APTS!! #18 for an awesome view and those sunsets!!!
Yes, definitely Bel Mar for your honeymoon!!

I agree with Annie though there are too many
choices for super accommodations so it's a toughy.
Good luck!

Try www.deepblueview.com
This small B&B is located in a quiet area.

While Menno operates the Deep Blue View and is therefore a little biased (Menno - make sure to indicate your affiliation in future such posts), I actually was thinking the same thing. One of the BT regulars, Josie Estill, stayed at Deep Blue View back in February and loved it. Do a search on "Deep Blue View" here on BonaireTalk for more comments.

Be aware, that there really aren't many large resorts as you would think of them on other islands. Plaza fairly big, as is Buddy's, but most are small and quaint. You really can't go wrong-enjoy!

Spend a couple of hours and hike to the top of Mt. Brandaris in Washington Park. Do it in the early morning to beat the heat. Not an easy walk, but definitely worth the effort.

We spent a week at the Deep Blue View in February, and found it lovely. A great honeymoon spot. It's quiet, secluded, has a lovely outside area, with pool, and great views over the ocean.

It has just four rooms (the Triggerfish room is the best, I think!), around the courtyard. Hammocks for lazing, a guest refrigerator for snacks/drinks. You'd have to have a car and would need to drive about 10 minutes to restaurants for lunch and dinner.

Esther makes great breakfasts!!!

Hello all-

I wanted to thank everyone so much for their suggestions! We haven't yet made up our minds- the prices for Deep Blue View are more than we had wanted to pay- but it looks lovely, as do some of the other suggestions. We'll post with what we decide- I can't wait until we can file our own trip report! :-)

Re: certification- I can't scuba due to health problems (asthma, sinus/ear infections- the works!!!) but I'm very into extreme snorkeling :-). Hopefully we'll get our own boots/dive fins and weight belts and be able to do as much as we can do snorkel wise- we went to Maui last year, and did some crazy lava hikes out to really isolated snorkeling areas, and we had a *blast*. -Jenny

Jennifer , it's true that the "big resorts" are not that big. And never an obnoxious crowd. Even at Plaza the most people we have ever seen around the pool was 6. No competition for lounge chairs on the beach. very laid back everywhere we have stayed or visited . The whole island has the feel of a cozy B&B. You will have privacy most anywhere you stay. (and privacy can be a very good thing on a honeymoon:-)) Congratulations!
