I have now finished 2 weeks plus at the Divi and have 3 weeks to go before I have to go home. I just wanted to report that everything is great. The manager (Frits), his wife and entire staff have done a great job getting the resort in tip top shape. The time share (efficiency) rooms have now mostly been remodeled. Anybody who is still looking for places to stay in Boniare should give serious consideration to Divi. Several years ago things were somewhat ragged. However, Divi is now the jewel it once was... (no, I don't work for Divi)
If there are any kind souls out there who are coming to Bonaire this week and have room in their baggage...a 12 pack of miller lite would be most appreciated...I have a fresh supply coming in on the 22nd but I don't think I will make it....if you are coming in on AJ, make sure you pick up rum....great stuff I think...can't remember

Hi, Gregg! Glad to hear your comments on the Divi. They really have come a long way in the past few years. Sorry we won't be there in time for your beer restocking, but I have faith that you will come up with some sort of solution! LOL. Which unit are you in? We arrive on May 24 for two weeks on the timeshare side and can't wait to get there. Frits has done quite a bit. Still miss Stevo, too, tho! Have fun and stay out of trouble....Carole

PS How many of the timeshare rooms have the new sliding glass doors and stuff?

Carole,

Hi again...my normal room(s) are 704 but I am now in 703... Most of the rooms on the first floor have the new windows. They look very classy but without the locks, makes it a pain. They replaced the kitchen side with all glass (frosted)also but no shades or drapes...you can read in the kitchen at nite from the outside lite.
Liz, have been by your place at LBR...things look good ...thanks for your thoughts on the ML....could be a dry week before the new supply arrives... I will survive... enjoy when you get here...cheers

Thanks, Gregg...have to check it out in a few weeks. I certainly hope they are working on the "no locks" situation. I guess you have to lock the doors and then exit the rear, correct? Hmmmmm. Not very secure, eh? Use the safe at all times is a must now. Glad to hear you are surviving without the Miller Light for a while...just keep gazing at the scenery on the tanning pier and you will be just fine.....LOL! Carole

Lorraine, all of the "regulars" and more are still in the waters.....they are flourishing everywhere. Tarpon, barracuda, French Angels...yes, Fifi is still cruising the Divi waters every day! Turtles, and much, much more. It will be soooo great to be back down in Bonaire in a couple of weeks. You will feel so much better once you and Jim get back to the island....it will take you one minute to feel right at home again. Carole

Carole and Lorraine,

My 6 wks is rapidly coming to an end...the locks are still a pain...they are now locking the gates to the parking lot and the gate at the dive shop....I am not sure I understand the logic (?) since the locals still enter through the casino gates with no guards posted...even when the guards are present, they seem oblivious to the locals. I am not against the locals. However, locking the gates is impacting the guests more than the locals... it is still a great place

Gregg, sorry to hear your six weeks is almost over...went by quickly...too quickly. The locked gates are an inconvenience, but I guess they figure it is a minor one compared to other more serious problems that could occur without them. It can be a pain when you are forced to park way out by the main front desk, sometimes, tho. Especially on the nites the casino is packed and there are cars all over the place. We used to park in the side lot behind the timeshare units, but can't do that any longer with the bolt on the gate over there, too. Oh well.

Maybe a bunch of us can discuss it with Frits when we get there.

Are the local kids still monopolizing the timeshare hot tub??

Can't wait to just get there and relax. We work all year long for this one trip.....it takes sooo long to get here and I want to enjoy it. Hard NOT to on Bonaire! Stay loose. Carole

Carole,

You will really miss the back gate near the dive shop in the evening if you want to walk to town. Bonaire has done such a great job by landscaping the shorefront etc. Now the you have to exit around the casino then walk up the street. The only folks who can use the back gate are the locals who simply climb the fence (I've watch the guard watch the climbers). Yeah, the locals come in groups and can dominate the pool. The guards tend to turn their heads.

However, in the big picture of things, the Divi is still the best place to stay

I think they need to post a guard at that back gate and leave it open for the guest to use the prominade in to town. The main reason the Divi is such an awesome place to stay is it's proximity to town. What in the world are they thinking?????

I agree with you, Darlene! They do need to be more attentive to the paying guests and not so much the folks who live in the area when it comes to accessing the Divi property and the guests' access to the walkway gate and the parking lot gates, too.

If the guards are already "in place" why lock the gates 24/7? If they are "in place" why is the pool overrun with kids who are not paying guests?

I know I sound like "Bah, Humbug", but we do love to just relax by the pool and savor some peace and quiet without constant diving, splashing and screeching. It is not all "that" bad, but it can be annoying at times.

I will get off my "box", now! LOL. Just a thought...or two. Carole

Good points. How hard can it be to put a lock on the gate and give a key to every guest? I especially like backing the truck up to the gate area to get our gear loaded up for a nite dive. Last time we were there, we had to walk down to the pier and the all the way to the casino parking lot. Dumb.
