For the past four years we have rented 2 bedroom w/ac, 2 bath apartment from Island Rentals..very affordable and clean for our month long stay..this year we unfortunatly had several "incidents" where clothing was stolen from the clothesline and van gone through during the morning, and then same day an intruder was caught coming through the kitchen window after prying the rebar grill off the wall to get in!!...not feeling secure after police reports and neighbors warnings, we found another arrangements at Lagoen Hills, Carmelita helped us during high season where everything on the island was full, or not in our budget. into a huge 3 bedroom 3 bath house with enormous kitchen and lots of neighbors with porch lights on for our security , hot water and a pool were added, amenities ...Lagoen Hills is about 10 minutes out of town in the kinuku (farm) territory ..Toucan Divers has a fill station here, very convienient..later scheduled into smaller studio apartment that was perfect for two people, but we still found someone trying to break into the empty unit next door..DID WE HAVE A SIGN ON US ? PICK ON THESE PEOPLE ? good grief..started to feel paranoid...problem is sleeping in the bedrooms with the air conditioning on all night, cover sounds of breaking and entry, so we really did'nt get a good night sleep listening for every bump in the night .. not what a relaxing vacation should be...Bonaire really must address this issue or lose tourists dollars...would I stay at Island rentals apartment again ? hmmmmm, still don't know how I feel about that, the owner did compromise with us and refund some of the rent, so I feel better about that, but I will know better in the future to take certain precautions to protect ourselves from theft...not leave ANYTHING out overnight..leave lights on outside, put any cameras out of sight, and have neighbors you can call on..also rent a cell phone...now just have to let it all go and plan my next trip...ahhh but will it be to Bonaire ? "I just wanna go diving" is my motto ..hated this complication to the trip
