We are thinking of a Sept/Oct wedding in Bonaire...has anyone done this? Pros? Cons? Thanks in advance!

Mary, Bonaire is to beautiful to spend your honeymoon there, because of all the time you spend inside. Gary

You might ask Martin de Weger and Angela, they are getting married in Bonaire some time in June, and they will be able to tell you all about it!

Hillary and Melissa are getting married tomorrow at Harbor Village and will be home later this week so should be able to answer your questions.

Mary -

Our neighbors at HHH had their wedding 2 years ago (in May) on Bonaire. They showed up the next year as our neighbors (again) - so that is good.

They were doing everything themselves instead of using a service. I think that meant a lot of time talking to government officials instead of enjoying Bonaire. So, they saved some money, but . . .

Also - they decided to wear formal attire. And, the winds died down for a couple of days that May. It was HOT!! As I understand it - September can be hot due to the winds dying down. Check with more experienced people about that.

HTH - Bea

Mary - you're best off with a Bonaire Wedding Planner to help you as there are all sorts of paperwork issues that need to be taken care of to be legally married on Bonaire - see either http://www.BonaireWeddings.com and http://www.BonaireTours.com/weddings/ for two good planners. Either one can help explain what's required and help you figure out what's best in terms of a Bonaire wedding.

Susan - Hillary and Melissa were supposed to get married Tuesday (the 4th) at Harbour Village on the beach, but somehow the Justice of the Peace who was supposed to marry them failed to realize that, so it ended up being a dress rehearsal. (That's a first incidentally - never heard of that ever happening on Bonaire before - the JP not showing up.)

They did, I'm pleased to report, actually get married about 7 hours ago, a day later than planned. (Melissa asked me Sunday to give her away - I was quite touched by that, so I gladly fulfilled that role, as well as that of ring bearer and best man too :-) )

It was a great wedding (finally) with a fair number of BTers present -- Josie, Harrie, Chet and Jean Wood, Darlene and Tom Ellis, Jake, Linda, Bas, Yana, Jake's Dad Otto, and myself (did I leave anyone out?). We all took lots of photos and I'm sure Hillary and Melissa will respond regarding all the legal hoops one must jump through to get married here. The bride was beautiful. And they were remarkably resilient regarding the no-show of the JP!

So glad to hear that the wedding finally happened! It was great to meet them both last week and I look forward to the pictures. Sorry we had to leave before the big day (s)!

That was definitely the first "two-day" wedding we've ever attended; Melissa & Hillary seemed to handle the delays very well. Pictures (hopefully to including a "behind" the scene's view from Tuesday evening) will follow later (after we get a chance to edit and 'process' our video and pictures).
