Sorry! I'm traveling with a Sony VP, an old friend and a very good person, who can't afford to go away without her laptop, so....we need to worry about hookups. We are staying at Divi and they have not been forthcoming with much info. Anybody know if Divi has dataports? Any cybercafes in Kralendijk?

Maxine,

None of the Cyber Cafes on Bonaire are capable of letting you hook-up your notebook to their nets, unfortunately.

Not sure if the phones in the rooms at Divi offer Data Jacks. If they do, your best ISP bet (from the U.S.) is to sign up with AT&T Global Net (http://www.attglobal.net) - there's a local access number here - slow, but it works.

Is your Sony V.P. friend based out of NJ by chance?

Jake

Hopefully, by Tuesday I will have the lap top hookups available on my network. Help, Jake! My supplier is a bit foggy on how, but Bonaire Chat n' Browse will give it a go. If not, I can always give you my private line and password to connect to our isp.

Michael,

hope your system is running when I get there for my 6 wk sabbatical beginning the end of March...I'd much rather hook up a laptop with my own system than to use one of the cyber cafe's...great idea

Get a life! Laptops and computers don't belong on a VACATION/HOLIDAY!

I'd disagree with that. I use my notebook on vacations to download my Memory Sticks from my digital cameras, and review the images. But that's beside the point.

Michael - have you spoken to the folks at Radio Netherlands' IT group? They should be able to set this all up for you.

Jake

Kent,

When you take 6 weeks off, it is hard to leave all the business behind...I guess I could only take 2 weeks like most folks and leave the laptop at home... nah...I'll take the laptop and stay 6...

echoing what jake said, you have to have the laptop for digital picture downloading and viewing...

however, one needs to be a little careful about scheduling one's time for all that - i mean i can't believe how much time i wasted sitting around drinking beer, admiring my pictures;)

(i'm sure it cost me 2 or 3 dives)

;)

Well I guess some of us are just geeks and can't get away from the toys.
Last time I visited Bonaire I left the laptop at home and brought my PocketPC. More compact, but of course you have a smaller display.

Michael,

If you still have problems four weeks from now, I'm willing to have a look at it. We arrive on 29the of March.

You can always send me a PM/e-mail if I can assist remotely.

Peter
