Can anyone tell me about any experiences with Pamboe Apts they may have had? Easy access to beaches and groceries? Do we need to rent transportation to stay at Pamboe? Safe location? Comfortable?

Thanks very much from Carrboro, NC USA

I cannot help with info on the Apts. I don't think I've heard of them be4.
4 the transpartation: I don't know what u want 2 do on the island, but I would recommend a car anyway. It's a beautiful island and there are a lot of nice places 2 visit. The only option 2 get there easily is by own car.
Have a great trip!

Stayed at Pamboe in 2000. They are clean, well maintained, and in a typical Bonaire residential area. The manager lives just down the street and is available if you need anything. Cleaning service comes in every other day. The furninshing are sparce, but adequate.
The water is heated by the sun so don't plan on a really hot shower. Late afternoon and evening showers are plenty warm, but mornings are a bit cool. We got used to it quickly and even enjoyed the challenge of who go to the shower first for the warm one.

You will need transportation no matter where you stay to get around and enjoy the island but Pamboe is a brisk 20 minute walk to town. Taxi's are hard to come by and are expensive.
We have stayed at some of the larger hotels, but prefer the small quiet space of a private home or hotel. We are headed down for our 5th trip in March.

Thanks Michael,

This sounds just like what we're looking for. To clarify, the small, one-bedroom apartment does have a kitchen, right?

Thanks for the good advice Igor,

Ursula from Pamboe said that a car is as cheap as a scooter rental. Is a car the best way to go?

We are so excited! Are there any must "do" activities?

Carrboro,
Yes, all of the units or apartments have stove and frig, but no microwave. There are two one bedroom units in the triplex. One has one bed and the one we stayed in has two full size beds.
Between them is the two bedroom (maybe 3) apartment.
I would suggest you avoid renting a van. The wheel base on the vans are very narrow and I think a little scary to drive down into some of the dive/snorkling sites. I would suggest a pickup or jeep.

Have fun - Bonair is a great place to go.

Michael - Salem Oregon

More good news and advice, thanks Michael!

We might have to pick your brain after March for some more insight. We're going down for the first time at the end of May for 6 weeks for our honey moon and we cannot wait!

Thanks again Michael,

Asher

We are staying at BonaireBungalows this time. It is a small bunglalow park about about a 5 minute walk from town. It will be our first time staying there, but we drove through the park last year and it looked pretty good. There is a community pool, not that we use a pool much, thought it might me okay this time. Check them out on the web at bonairebungalows.com We are staying in Seaturtle 27A. Will let you know what we think on our return.

Are you planning to dive or snorkel?

We're planning to both snorkel and dive. My wife-to-be is going to take classes stateside and will do her certification dives on Bonaire. I think that we'll snorkel more than dive due to the fact that we will be recently graduated students on a budget (we're trying to economize as much as possible). We also want to windsurf and explore the inland. It looks like there might be rock climbing on the island, do you know of anyone who does climbs?

Why did you decide to switch to Bonaire Bungalows? They look very lovely!

Didn't know about the rock climbing so can't help you there. You will love the windsurfing at LacBay, it's incredible. We don't windsurf, but always find time to go over and watch.

We always find a new place to stay each time we go to Bonaire. It just adds a little adventure to the trip. We have stayed at Sand Dollar, Capt. Don's, Carib Inn and Pamboe. We liked them all and each offers something different. We are in our late 50's and prefer the quiet of a small space. We go to dive and spend most of our time underwater.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage - Sandra and I Just celebrated our 40th anniversary in October. I wish you as many good years.

It sounds like we have similar accomodation tastes. We like the quite of apartments--you can always search out the action & then come home to a quiet refuge.

Thank you very much for the wish; I hope that we have at least as many good years as you guys!

Best regards,

Asher
