When we have traveled to Cayman, Cozumel, and St. Croix, we found we got a much better deal on our room by not making reservations in advance. We researched the hotels we were interested in and when when got on the island we cut a deal for the week. We always saved at least 25% to 30% on our room - especially in Cozumel.

Can that be done in Bonaire? We are planning a trip for May,2000, I understand that is a slow season.

May is low season but watch out for local holidays and Venezuelan holidays as well. I don't know if you could cut a deal on the spot. Many of the hotels here don't work on the concept of a full hotel is better than an empty room. At least on Cayman and Cozumel there is a lot more competition to fill the hotels.

I think that I might be able to answer this question. Just last week I had a couple from Boston walk-in to SunRentals Bonaire without a reservation. I was able to get them a great deal at Lagoen Hill Bungalows. Of course this is taking a gamble but I always seem to have something available.
