We're bringing a clock & hair dryer that use US 110V. Do we need a converter? If so, any specifications would be useful.

The AC power on Bonaire is different from almost all other countries in the world. It is 127 volts at 50Hz. If you do a keyword search on 127 volts, or AC power, or something else along those lines, it will return discussions that should answer most, if not all of your questions.

hair dryer will work but it is reccomended to use low settings (you probably will find you wont need it anyway) Leave clock home as it will not keep accurate time due to the cycles.

I used the blow dryer that was in the resort. But as soon as you step outside your style will be GONE WITH THE WIND!

I took my blow dryer last time. By the time I left, the dryer was emitting a burning smell, and I had to toss it. Let your hair air dry-better for conservation on Bonaire, and much easier.

And who wants a clock?!!!!!

I fried the transformer to a pair of speakers for a CD walkman as well as a battery charger. I do remember reading that dive shops are usually set up to charge batteries at the proper voltage/frequency. Does anyone know if there's an affordable over-the-counter converter available to the general traveler that would work?
Thanks in advance!

Check the stamped info on your particular devices. I know that for my Sony chargers they are multi-cycle, vari-voltage rated already and worked just fine on Bonaire at 127/50 or here in Chicago at 110/60.

And I'm getting just too bald to worry about them there hair dryin' gizmos. LOL

Good luck.

There's not much you can do about the Hz without an AC to DC converter and then an inverter.

For "wall warts" - those DC transformers you just plug into the wall, you need something that will drop the 125-135V we normal get to about 105-110V (keeping the frequency at 50Hz).

Dedicated electronics stores in the U.S. will have something for this, but probably not anywhere else - it's a pretty unusual set-up shared only by Bonaire, Curacao, and parts of Jamaica.

Thanks Jake! Now should I ask the clerk if he has "something for wall warts?"
