Hello All:

Linda and I are looking forward to our FIRST TRIP to Bonaire coming up the first of May. It'll be Linda's birthday, too (the BIG one).

I appreciate all of the comments I have been able to read online on this forum. The information has proven to be invaluable.

One question I have for those who might know, is this: How big are the safes at Buddy Dive? Big enough for a laptop?

Thanks in advance for the help, and we'll look forward to lurking some more.

Lind and Jim

Linda, The safes are big enough for passports, wallets, etc. Laptops won't fit.
We have never had a problem leaving our computers out!

We have stayed at Buddy's for the last 13 trips. Safes are small but adequate for most. You can fit wallets, passports, tickets and the like. Not laptop size :-( You can check with the front desk but I know of nothing larger on the resort.

We leave cameras and other things out without a problem. Please do lock your doors and windows though just for added security. I am very impressed with Buddy's staff and security!!

I agree with Kobi, in my experience Buddy's seems pretty safe. While we locked up our passports, wallets, expensive jewelry, etc., we left out cameras and laptops as well with no problem. As for things left out, heck, sometimes the housekeeper didn't even take the tip money we left on the counter (we finally started leaving explicit notes on top of the $$$) and all was fine.

As an aside, when we were there in January, we had an apartment with a door that adjoined the next apartment (which was undergoing some remodeling). One morning when I was standing in our bathroom getting ready (thankfully I was already dressed), the adjoining door (which opened directly across from the bathroom...oh my) popped open and a worker appeared (he was trying to sand and paint the door frame on the other side). We all said our good mornings and got on with life.

It was a little disconcerting at first to know that the door was going to be unlocked while we were out diving, but my husband and I just trusted that all would be well, and it was. Truthfully, I was worried about my rum disappearing more than anything, but everything was ship shape when we returned :-) Even the ants were still there.

Linda & Jim..Just as a side note to Liz's posting above, I'd really leave any expensive jewelry at home. No need to bring it to Bonaire. If you need jewelry, take the cheap stuff. :-)

Vince is totally right. Don't even bring the expensive jewelry. I mistakenly brought my engagement/wedding rings, and they ended up in the safe the whole time, since I don't wear them when I dive anyway. I'm leaving it all at home in May.

Looks like our dates don't overlap, sadly. Hope you have a great trip :-)

Thanks for the advice, Vince and Liz. I'd say that all I have is inexpensive jewelry, but with my wife........that's another story entirely. Our 4th Anniversary is a few days before our trip, and I think I may surprise her with a "stand-in" wedding ring so she can leave "The Monster" at home. (Don't tell her, though....)

I just hope she'll marry me again!

Vince - thx. I try not to take life (and all it entails) too seriously :-)
