I will be in Bonaire Feb 23rd thru March 1, staying @ the Divi Flamingo. I am a newly certified diver and will be traveling alone. Can anyone tell me what to expect regarding the Divi Flamingo accomodiations, and diving if you are alone. Is it easy to find someone to dive with for the shore dives etc.
Any info would be appreciated regarding the Divi Flamingo and single divers.

I have heard so many great things about Bonaire. I cant wait to go!!

Thanks

Andy B

Welcome Andy B
Can't answer about Divi accommodations as haven't stayed there but I am sure others will give you info on the resort.

Check in with the dive shop, do your orientation and tell them you are a single diver and would like to do some shore diving with others, they will put you in touch with or introduce you to others in the same situation.

Enjoy Bonaire: her people, her topside and her underwater, everything is great. Rent a truck and go to the Washington/Slagbaai Park, go see the Indian cave paintings, drive around the island there are many, many things to see and do on non-dive days/times.

I stayed at the Divi Flamingo in July. I thought it was a great place to stay. I am a snorkeler not a diver but I enjoyed snorkeling right from the Divi, and saw a lot of marine life. The Divi is also within easy walking distance of many restaurants. We walked to dinner just about every night. Have a great time

Divi's rooms are spare and a bit worn. You might call it a 2 1/2 star property based on the rooms alone.

The property is ideally located and the dive op is great.

Restaurant food is decent.

They were recently tearing up the road outside the ppty. but this may have been finished by now.

Know what you're buying and you won't be disappointed. The total experience in Bonaire is so great that you don't need a fancy hotel room to enjoy it.

Construction is still going on in front.

Was there in early December, construction going on road out front, which was sort of nice, kept the midnight drag racing down to a minimum of noise! <g>

I think some of the Divi rooms are "worn" in ways, but I have always found them to be clean, and have whatever I need. The timeshare side with kitchenettes are equipped well enough to make a meal, etc. Bathrooms are tiny but then again, I am not staying in the bathroom!

I have also found the staff to be very accomodating to our/my requests.

2/9/08, construction still going on. We were there yesterday being shown the timeshare studios and told that the kitchen is going to be remodeled, but it all seemed nice. Hearing a lot of chatter here thought that most think it is run down.

Sharon, You are going to an Island. The Divi, like all the resorts, are lived in year round. They are a place to eat, sleep, and store your valuables. 4 star people should go to H/Village! I have stayed at the Divi, and enjoyed my stay. I don't compaire Bonaire to home like alot of the stuffed shirts do that bad mouth the local lodging! I see from your profile, you are a diver. Come to Bonaire, Stay at the Divi, and have the time of your life!!! Ron

Thank you, Freddie. I was only commenting on what I was told by the RCI timeshare management. Thanks, and I love Bonaire, any way it comes. I'd live in a shack for a view and a dive beach! smile.

Andrew- sorry for the late response... My husband and I always stay at the Divi. We love the dive operation and you will have no problem finding a buddy, at the very least, the dive master will dive with you. It is the perfect location, too. Ask for a gate key so you can leave and enter through the back gate which faces town. If you're like us, you will enjoy your walk into town for dinner. There are so many options and may are within a short walk from the hotel. One thing the we always do that many are not aware: We exchange our breakfast vouchers for lunch. We are coffee and maybe fruit eaters for breakfast before we dive, and don't appreciate a huge breakfast buffet. But we LOVE lunch.... which is a lovely break between your AM and PM dives.

Enjoy Divi.. and if you stay in the Deluxe area, ask for the ground level room so you can watch the crabs on the rocks in the morning.
