Is it true that the Hilton Hotel will be comming to Bonaire to build another resort? We don't need another resort on Bonaire, We like it just the way it is. I subscribe to a dive shop which had an article which i copy and will insert in this message, the insert is "Hilton Hotels Corporation announced last month that it has entered into a franchise license agreement to build the Hilton Bonaire Resort and Spa, a planned upscale, full-service resort on Bonaire."

Again i feel we don't need another large resort on bonaire. Protect the reef thats is where the treasure lies.

Lee..You certainly have a right to your opinion. But, bear in mind that the people of Bonaire held democratic elections and voted for the present leaders in government who subsequently approved the project.

When you say "we like it just the way it is", I can understand that, few people like change. We all want good environmental conservation practices incorporated with the construction.

But really... it's THEIR island. Most of the folks on BT are visitors who visit maybe annually to several times a year. I think the key is WE are visitors.

Hello Lee and welcome to BT. As usual, well put Vince. A few problems with this hotel being tossed around right now is that the development is not located oceanfront and questions are being raised about the viability of the project due to this fact, and also the sewage problem that already exists on the island.

Can you imagine seeing little "Miss Paris" at Whataburger! To bad grandpa left the money to charity :-)) !!!!!

Pat, let's just hope that she does not bring that moron Brittney with her. Anyway, what the thinking of building a Hilton resort, where they are building it, baffles me. I know I would never want to stay there. To each their own I guess. I'm sure many environmental factors have already been weighed and reweighed. Let's just hope they do it right.

C'mon Jim...Waddaya mean about the location of the Hilton? What's wrong with inhaling a deep lungful of mephitic jet fumes and exhaust early in the morning? Does wonders for your day..I hear it'll wake you right up & knock your sandals off to boot :-)

I've stayed at the Marriot on Curacao - quite upscale and the experience is enhanced by fumes from the refinery wafting downwind. Maybe it can be marketed as "Aromatherapy".

Hey Jim, I know I remember reading something about canals or a large center pool of water used in the project? I have a folder on my home computer of this stuff and will post if I can find my info source. I have to think that if you want to stay at a location like this, shore diving is not high on your vacation plans....spa services Yes, just my guess. To each his own. I also remember they stated a job creation number, which is certainly good for the island.

We shall see.........

I love the simplicity of the Bonairian lifestyle, the shy smiles and the genuine kindness of the people. Hopefully the people of Bonaire will be the employees of this proposed new project and truly benefit from the opportunities possible. I was born and raised and still live in New Orleans, so the politics involved in ANYTHING make me nervous! I am hoping for the best case senerio for all of us!
Shelley
