My wife and I are looking at going to Bonaire in early July and our travel agent has told us of the air jamaica package at divi which looks like a good deal but it doesn't include any dive packages.

Can you purchase dive packages separately from the hotels?

I noticed some of the hotels offer accomodation and dive packages. Would it be better to get this and then purchase a ticket through air jamaica separately?

Peter,

Buddy Dive has a "drive and dive" package which includes a truck (a must have for shore dives) unlimited tanks for shore dives, boad dives daily, breakfast and a ride to and from the airport.

We'll be there the first week of September and we booked that package and our airline tickets separately on Air Jamaica.

I think most of the dive operations offer dive packages separately - at least it seems that way on the websites I've checked out.

Peter,

There is also Wannadive, they offer dive packages without accomodation. And City Cafe has dive packages but I think they are with accomodation.

Photo Tours also has dive packages with several different hotels or dive packages by themselves

I think it's pretty safe to assume that pretty much every hotel/resort on Bonaire has dive packages. And in terms of dive shops, you can get packages from most of them if the resorts they are at aren't overbooked.

Peter - contact Divi directly at divibon@bonairelive.com or via the U.S. 800 number to arrange your dive package at the Divi Flamingo if that's where you'll be staying. Air Jamaica may not be offering the dive package because their computer booking system doesn't "speak" diving.

Why don't you E-mail the dive shop at the Divi. I cann't believe they don't offer any pkgs. They have a great dive shop right on the premises. The dive masters are very knowlegeable about the reef and you can get unlimited air too. You can go shore diving and night diving right from their dock( one of my favorite dives Calabass reef.) and they have alot of boats and equipment I will check on that.

You can also go ala carte at the Divi dive shop. That will give you more flexibility for skipping days, deciding to shore dive only on any one day, taking a snorkel trip on the Woodwind, or just plain decide to stay dry for the day, or if you have ear problems and have to skip diving for several days.

PS - I always wear a surgical mask on the way down to reduce my chances of picking up a cold on the plane. I got tired of losing diving days, since I started wearing a mask I haven't lost any diving days because of a cold. I get a few strange looks for some of the other passengers, but those that ask, like my reasoning.

Divi does offer dive packages as Jake mentioned (I own timeshares there). If you plan to do only shore dives, you may want to consider purchasing a dive package at another shop. Buddy Dive has a drive thru tank system..just pull your car up and load/unload tanks (no carrying). If you are doing boat dives, Divi is fine.
