My husband and I are planning a trip for next April. We have decided on a Jr. Suite at the Plaza. Can you see the ocean from the oceanside rooms? (We have booked "oceanside" rooms before and were not able to see the water.) Is it better to be on the ground floor or first floor? I don't know if certain room numbers can be requested, but if they can, does anyone have a recommendation? Also, is there a breakfast buffet? Is it good? Thanks for any info!

We had an oceanfront grand suite with oceanviews upstairs (I prefer that vs hearing feet overhead). It was lovely. We had a large bathroom with double sink and then another toilet with sink and bidet. There was a large walk in closet with a small fridge which was perfect for storing drinks and cheese. The main room had a huge area with large dining room table, chairs and a big bedroom with two queen beds. The balcony was huge overlooking the sea.

It was totally relaxing aside from the bathroom vent in our apartment. You could hear your neighbor if they were in their bathroom at the same time. One night our next door neighbors had the Spanish channel blasting at 2 AM (it as Regatta Week so we were all up late) but one call to security did the job. Also the bass of the music in town could be felt while sleeping (it was a real party week) but I grew accustomed to that. I am a light sleeper so notice anything..

The grounds are huge and spread out. Lovely garden, pretty beach with lots of sand and GREAT snorkeling. A little swell the week we were there. I never really eat in hotels so cannot comment. If you enjoy a resort experience, you will love it. Toucan is right there and the tennis court looks great. There is a little grocery on site and you can walk to Old Inn, Richards, Divi and town.

Carol, the breakfast isn't too bad at all, eggs, bacon, toast/cereal, fruit and so on.... certainly enough to keep you going for a bit..

The rooms.. we've stayed at Plaza a few times, (month of December) but always in a Laguna View Room (overlooking the lagoon), a very nice part of the Resort, quiet (if you like that), nice views of expensive boats and a parking area very close to the room which we found to be really handy, as you can drive up to your door and drop off luggage etc with ease...(there's also a rear gated entrance/exit) with security quard. The room itself has a nice big bathroom with double sinks, bedroom with queen beds/tv, doors leading from sitting room and bedroom to balcony with table and chairs, well equipped kitchen, fridge, microwave, utensils etc.. sitting room with TV/phone, dining table, nice big closets with a good size safe.. To get to the main part of the resort, you walk over the bridge, as you do this, (and if you're divers, the dive operator can been seen to your right)..Have fun:)

Carol -

We've stayed at the Plaza twice, September '99 and January '02.

I think you will be pleased and we offer a couple of tips that might be useful.

The music from the beach bar (Coconut Crash) can be irritating at night. Ask for a room as far away as possible if you think that might bother you. Otherwise, go down to the bar and help make the music!

We love the seaside restaurant at the Plaza, the Tipsy Seagull, for sunset drinks and watching for the green flash.

The hotel is owned by a large Dutch operation and there usually are a fair number of Dutch tourists there. They all smoke, if that bothers you (it bothers us a lot), just watch the direction of the breeze when you go to an outdoor restaurant, request specific seating, and you'll be home free.

And, be advised that the Dutch ladies love to go topless at the beach. For some Americans, that is offensive. For the American males in our family, it is a bonus! But do remember, it is not our culture and we are guests in theirs.

Carol, I think y'all will love Bonaire. Not only is the underwater exerience world-class, but also the people and culture are a fascinating mix of cosmopolitan and unique to Bonaire.

Hope this helps.

Chas.

we had a jr. suite 2 years ago, and had a view of the ocean through the palm trees and over the pool. i agree with ann about the second floor. if you want a real ocean view the grand suites are the way to go.
