First of all, I've done the keyword search for Kontiki and read back through some of the posts. Unfortunately many of these go back several years.

I would love to hear from any divers and kayakers that have stayed there recently as to their opinion of the accommodations. I don't necessarily mind that the dive shop isn't on site because we do so much shore diving. We've never had the convenience of staying at a location with docks (our stay at Captain Don's was the year after Hurricane Lenny - no docks) so driving to the dive shop isn't that bad.

This will be our first trip to include kayaking so I thought we might give the east side a try.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Michael

Hi Michael! Can't help too much. We did eat there one evening and it was nice. It is pretty amazing to see all of the stars and how quiet it was over there at night. If it is ambience you want, it seems to be pretty good. But alas, we did not check out rooms etc.

Cynde/Tribs,

Thanks, it's good to be planning again. Still not certain we'll be able to pull it off with scheduling, but I need to get the heck out of the States for some well deserved rest. I spent the last couple weeks looking at options for Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac as well as Maui. Somehow we just keep migrating back to Bonaire. We've never been to Maui but my sister and her husband have a time share there and love it. I guess it's just too touristy for me. Not to mention living in Iowa makes it easier and closer to get to the Caribbean than Hawaii.

The only thread I remember about KonTiki as an accomodation was not terribly flattering. I believe the poster indicated their room had been broken into and management was not helpful. Have you searched the archives?

Hey Michael. I've been to Maui, Kaui and Oahu...and because of some free accomdations, I'm going to the Big Island next month.

But it's been over 12 yrs since I've been to the islands. Once I discovered Bonaire and the Caribbean...it beats out Hawaii for me. Not saying Hawaii doesn't rock, but vis and color and temp of water..not to mention just a whole lot less crowded and better prices for everything.....well, Bon for me has all others beat!

It's why I am coming back for my 5th time in 4 yrs this Dec!
