I am visiting Bonaire for a few days with my partner, this year, in early November and would like some recommendations of where to stay.

We would probably prefer an apartment to a hotel which is close enough to walk to the beach / sea, and also close enough to walk to an area where there are bars and restaurants to go to in the evening.

And recommendations much appreciated

Check out www.infobonaire.com and click on accommodations. This will give you lots of info on the different resorts.

Also Bonaire has very few beaches of sand. Most of the beaches are made up of coral rubble. The Divi Flamingo, Eden Beach, Plaza Resort and the Yacht Club are about the only ones that I can think of that have beaches and they are relatively small.

Louise, check out the Golden Reef Inn (I think it's goldenreefinn.com.) They are small apartments/units and are within walking distance to the water. You will love Liz and Ed, the owners.

Louise, the smaller one's that are within walking distance of town would be:

Dive Inn (right across from the water)
Carib Inn (on the water)

My mind has gone blank. I know there are a couple more but can't think of the names right now!

Where are my manners...Louise, welcome to Bonaire Talk:-) Plus, Linda and Bruce at Carib can fix just about anything that needs fixing in relation to dive gear/issues:-):-):-)

I'd recommend Buddy Dive. Great place, good food, great people.

I would second Paul's recommendation of Buddy Dive with one Caveat, you will be restricted to resort bars and restaurants (within walking distance). There are much more interesting places to eat/drink elsewhere (there are many threads on this subject alone but I will say you have to goto Gibi's and Casablancas).

I would also look at the Golden Reef Inn. We thought hard about staying there last time we went to Bonaire and again this December but Buddy's has sentimental value for us.

Hey Andy & Dave..Yacht Club doesn't have a beach as it's across the street from the beach.

Mercy, it is at least close, not 2-3 blocks away. It that group you could also list Sun Oceanfront and Dive Inn as they also have a beach across the street. We like looking at the water and beaches esp at sunset. I guess that is what I was thinking about when I listed the Yacht Club. Andy

Let me preface this by saying that I've only stayed at Captain Don's, but have visited friends staying ad Dive Inn. Their rooms were very basic, but clean and comfortable.

To be fair - Dive Inn is a lot closer than 2-3 blocks. There, they're right on the seaside street, which is barely wide enough for 1 car. It can be seen on this image: http://www.diveinnbonaire.com/images/zeekant.jpg

I wouldn't call it a beach, but definitely seaside.

Well Yacht Club is on the curve in the road there that makes it impossible to see the beach at all from it's location. For Louise's sake..it's right next to Pasa Bon Pizza and Cafe De Paris, two yummy restaurants.

We did a dive across from Dive Inn and, while it's very small, the beach and the water were the sandiest, rock free areas we found on the island.
