My understanding is that the water in front of Eden Beach is mostly rock and rubble.

We are planning a large group with a number of people who are not divers and there will be younger children.

Is the area in front of eden suitable for snorkeling or for kids to wade into??

Thanks

Yes, nice beach.

Russ the short answer is you can run around barefoot out of the water at Eden Beach but you touch the water and you will need hard soles. Right at the waters edge the coral and rubble starts.

To the left of the dock there is sloping rubble that drops off fairly rapidly. To the right of the dock there is a shallow ledge and then it drops down a foot or two. Small children will have to be watched very closely, but then the pool is right there.

For snorkeling the ledge (to the right) has lots of nice stuff including Spotted Drums, Urchins and lots of little fish. Under the dock is also nice and there are a few rocks in 10' of water. Its worth snorkeling but it will get old after a couple of times.

I agree with Cecil, small children should be watched VERY closely. The ledge can be extremely slippery even with boots and as has been said many times the current can rip!

Yep...gotta watch the kidlettes. We entered off the ledge one time just to the left of the dock. It was chest deep on me. Granted that is not very deep to a regular sized adult (I'm only 5 feet tall); but, it could be quite terrifying for a child to go from standing in ankle deep water on the ledge to the water being over their head.

Depends on the kids age. I sat at Bongo's and watched a group of kids probably 7 to 10 years old do nothing but jump off the dock, swim around to the steps,up the steps and jump again.
When I got there they were doing it and when I left an hour later they were still at it. Probably slept good that night.

It has been a few years since I have been to The Plaza Resort's beach area. From what I remember the water was shallow right in front of the beach and there was a sandy bottom.

Is that correct??

Does one need boots to wade in the shallow water??

Is there much to see snorkeling in the shallows??

We are planning a large group with a number of people who are not divers and there will be younger children.

Is the area in front of the beach suitable for snorkeling or for kids to wade into??

Thanks
