We're coming to Bonaire this coming winter. What about accommodations? I've been web surfing and looking for something moderately priced. Can anyone give me feedback on DIVER'S PARADISE, or THE TROPICAL INN or KONTIKI BEACH CLUB? They look good on the web - but I'd like to hear from someone who's actually stayed there.

My husband and I are in our 50/60's and are coming to Bonaire to dive - but we also enjoy seeing the sights.

Thanks for all your tips!

Dylon, welcome to Bonaire Talk. I've stayed at Diver's Paradise. The units are nice, clean, and have furniture on the patios. The kitchen was stocked with everything I needed to cook breakfast, dinner, etc. When I stayed there they had cable TV in the living area and an occilating fan (which for me is a bonus). The ocean is right across the street (houses along the beach though). It's North of town.

Dyan,
Check this place out on the web: www.diveinnbonaire.com A dutch owned studio appartment complex right on the sea. Kitchenette with all utensels, A/C, bathroom with shower, no pool but Cha Cha beach is right across the street! Clean with fresh towels everyday with maid service also. Dive Inn has a good diveshop and their own boat. They are located just north of the Divi and just south of town. Good snorkling/diving just steps from your door. We will be in #3 seaside 10/14 to 28th this year!! Can't wait to get back to our Dushi Island!! Ron
PS The price is right!!!

Dyan, my husband and I have stayed at Diver's Paradise and are returning there next week. Last summer we were there for 5 weeks and were very comfortable. Grasshopper gave a very complete description. We chose an upstairs unit which had nice cross ventilation, something the downstairs units do not. At first we were concerned about taking our gear up the stairs every night but it really was not a problem. We would rinse at the shop, carry it up the steps, let it dry on the patio and then use the storage locker for the unit. Bedrooms are airconditioned. They do not provide maid service but for longer stays you can pay extra for once a week cleaning (we did not do this as there were supplies available in the unit). They are located in a residential neighborhood, convenient to the northern dive sites, Chat and Browse and Lover's Ice Cream.

Susan, thanks. I stayed in one of the ground level units, hadn't thought about the upper units getting the crossbreaze:-)

Do the upper unit bedrooms have windows that open? I am trying to remember....I think that they ONLY have A/C in the bedroom and have sealed windows. A bummer because, for me, airco plus diving don't mix. I much prefer good old fashioned breezes.

Check out the Golden Reef Inn, They are moderately priced and have everything from studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom villas. look on the web site www.infobonaire.com and click on accommodations, then click on the price range you want. You will get lots of info on the different condos/apt on Bonaire. I use this web site all the time, there is so much information there.

Dyan, Check out Happy Holidays Homes on the info. I have been staying there for over 15 years. They are family owned and operated also very reasonable. I will be there at 8pm this evening with my family If it ever stops raining in Philadelphia.

Mare, I too prefer not to use airco and you are correct, the bedroom windows at DP do not open (the only drawback). The unit we were in had two doors into the bathroom ... one by the main door and one into the bedroom. By leaving every door in the place open while we were in the unit and awake we got great breezes. At night we would use the fan. For some folks that might not work if they do not like heat. I think my husband only turned on the airco once or twice.

Uh...that would be ME...lol...we are currently having a heat wave in So Cal...we don't have AC in the house (it really only gets bad a couple weeks a year so not really worth it)...normally we get a nice ocean breeze that rolls in around 3PM...but it's not happening....I am sweating bullets as I type and wish I did have AC!

Since others are throwing suggestions out there, Coco Palm Garden is nice, and Black Durgon Inn is on the water in Hato, you can dive right off the dock.

I'll second the vote for Golden Reef Inn... not on the water, but a great little place at a great price!

My vote goes to Bonaire Town Homes. We're in the same age group as you and have been coming to Bonaire since 1999. Our second trip we found BTH, and haven't wanted to stay anywhere else since -- trip #9 coming up next February.

It's small (only 3 units, all separate bungalows), quiet, clean and new. The owners live on the premises, and are absolutely charming and dedicated to helping their guests. Their prices are great, especially considering how nice the place is. Not on the water, but just a two-minute drive, and very convenient for stores also.

You can see their website at: www.bonairetownhomes.com

Josie and Alan unconditionally recommend them!!

We were at Dive In 10 years ago, did not stay there but the diveshop was great.
Nice people, they are also very close to Divi Flamingo were we stayed then.

Dylan, as you can see, there are several wonderful places to stay on Bonaire. You really can't go wrong with the one's mentioned. Please, let us know what you decide:-)

Another vote for the Dive Inn. Babs & her staff are great. Everything was so convenient - dive shop, water, restaurants & downtown - all walking distance. Price was pretty good too. We've stayed twice and not interested in looking elsewhere - hoping to be back soon.

Dyan, please forgive me for spelling your name incorrectly. My stepson's name is "Dylon" and my last name is "Lee." When I first saw your post I thought he had gotten creative and was posting:-) I told him about it a couple nights ago. Makes me think about my name...Cynde...I've been called "Clyde" a LOT of times over the years ;-)

Again, my apologies.

why not renting a private house from someone.
You have you're own privacy during your holiday and there are so many places where you can have a wonderfull diner and if you like you can cook yourself.
Look at www.bonairepartners.com they have a lot of private houses for rent.

Have a beautifull stay, we will go back in october.
