what do you prefer and why, a rental house (oceanfront) or a resort? Am considering buying a lot, but don't know if it would rent well enough to pay for itself.highlandfarmwvspencer

We do both, so I think I can qualify with an answer. 2 weeks at Divi and the rest of our time at a friends villa.I am torn between the two.
When we are at our time share at the Divi we are more social. Everthing is right there. You can get a better feel for things on the island from there. I feel you have more contact with people at the resort but you have more privacy at the villa, plus more space too. The luxury of the villa is wonderful too.
This year my sister and her husbanb are coming along and I booked the first week at Divi for them and the second at a villa with us.
I want them to experience both.
Hard choice.

My opinion is to go for the oceanfront and build a villa. If you keep the price lower than some of the other oceanfront you will probably keep it rented more than some of the more expensive places. Oceanfront in the Sabedeco area is priceless and it's where we like to stay when we have the money.

This year we rented a house for the first time. It was a relief, honestly: Although we did not have daily cleaning services and all, the freedom we experienced was well worth it. We had a house, which was not very big (but not small either) and with a big garden around the place. Great for my kid, who enjoyed himself there. From now on I think we would go with the houses, rather than resorts.

Dont think it will pay for itself, look into taxes(income & property)fees paid to Bonaire for rental property, utilities(electricity & water YIKES!)property management fees, cleaning service, etc If you want to own something for a months usage or so great, but income property....HMMMMMM?
