We are still trying to figure out where to stay. We are looking into Buddy's, Belmar and Habitat Dive (Capt. Don's). I've seen alot of feed back on the other places but not Belmar. If you have any information I would love to hear from you all.

Belmar is wonderful. The condos are large, well furnished, virtually new and clean. The staff(including the dive staff) go out of their way to make your visit a perfect experience. The facilities make shore diving very easy and the boat diving is w/Toucan, which is great. We have stayed other places on Bonaire and liked them as well. The difference w/Belmar is that it is newer and quieter so if you are looking for night life, it might be too quiet. As an added bonus, Belmar has a very friendly night watchman who greets you warmly and enthusiastically when you return home for the evening.

I would echo the above message. Belmar feels small and intimate. It has a great staff and easy shore diving out front. The units are very nice. You did have to drive over to Plaza resort to get the boats when we were there. I have heard others say they were picked up at Belmar by the boats but not when we were there in Aug 2001.

There are restaurants at Buddy's and Capt Dons. We have eaten there but have not stayed. The food at both was decent family fare ala Applebees or TGI Fridays. We eat breakfast and lunch in the room and drive to dinner anyway.

We stayed at Belmar last year at the end of May and are doing so again this year may4-11. I would recomend them for several reasons: Nice clean "apartments" with plenty of room and very decent kitchens. It is less of a major resort complex as the others and seems less touristy - but has all a diver needs including a locked storage closet for your gear right beside your front door so you don't have to track stuff in and out. tanks are available 24 hours/day onsite. if the seas are cooperative the toucan diving boats (good dive shop) will dock at belmar. there is a fair reef in "back" and a rinse tank/shower. a good reef to do your orientation dive. we saw a pod of dolphins travel by. cost is very reasonble. there is a restaurant at the nearby b&b "great escape" but we never went there.
