I really liked my first trip to Bonaire, but I advise that you avoid Coco Palm Gardens.

No room cleaning, cockroaches, no fresh towels, lousy beds, they didn't even empty our trash for the whole week, just generally very gross.

I'll be back to Bonaire but will never stay at Coco Palm Gardens again.

When I inquired I was told by the owner that I could only have fresh towels after 5 days ( yuck ), so I don't think I missed anything. If I did the owner should have told me that information at that point. I would gladly have paid for extra service.
I travel a lot and on a scale of 10 I'd give Coco Palm a 3, and only because there were nice plants outside of the rooms, otherwise a 2.

Coco Palms are"self catering" apartments, not a hotel and as such you are responsible for your own housekeeping etc. They are for folks like me who are willing to forgo the "hotel" service for budget accommodations, in order to stay on Bonaire longer. Having stayed there many times I find them clean and comfortable, with lovely patio space for each apt. A great place to kick back after a day in the water. And I find Brigitte and Marion to be most accommodating hosts.

I agree with Sharyn. I stayed there some years ago, and it was also "self-catering" then. We understood that it was more of an apartment rental than a hotel. You are responsible for your own housekeeping, laundry, etc. I liked the fact that it was like living on Bonaire rather than staying in a resort. We did have a lovely patio with a hammock and enjoyed spending evenings there.

The very gracious owners did tell us that some people stay there, happy with the budget prices, but expecting the comforts of a resort. It's a budget apartment rental for those who want to save money or stay longer, and I'd recommend it as such to anyone!

John it is too bad you didn't enjoy your stay at Coco Palms.
As explained already it is a "self catering" apartment and that fact is reflected in its pricing.
You should have read the orientation package provided in each apartment. It is explained very well how the apartments are run.
We have stayed with Brigitte and Marion for several years now and we enjoy our stay with them and look forward to staying there again soon.
It is a budget apartment and for those who are staying longer in Bonaire it is a great deal and we would recommend it to anyone.

I have to say that we have been to Bonaire twice and both times have stayed at Coco Palm Gardens. Our first trip was in 2005. We really love this place and look forward to going back. We have been to many places around the world and consider CocoPalm a find. When we first booked there, all of the information that we had about the establishment was from their website. We arrived clearly knowing that these were self maintained rental apartments and found the rooms and grounds better than stated on their website. We are from the USA and enjoy staying in places with less pretention as it feels more like home. The rooms are very clean on arrival and as clean as you keep them. As for cockroaches, I have been suprised that I havent seen any while staying there being that Bonaire is in the tropics. It is kind of expected. We will be back ASAP.

I have stayed with coco palm several times in several units. It was a wonderful experience every time. I only wish that I could go more often! I agree with Patrick that the accomodations are even better than the pictures show on their website at

Coming out of deep hiding....

I too had stayed several times at Coco Palms. It is as advertised. Brigitte and Marion a wonderful hosts and they do explain everything in the orientation. It's also on the web page. From the English language home page: "Coco Palm Garden & Casa Oleander are the ideal Bonaire self catering vacation rentals for divers and windsurfers - for everybody who is looking for tranquility and privacy away from the big hotels.

Our accommodations are self contained vacation homes (studios, apartments, villa) in the quiet residential area Belnem, south of airport and Kralendijk. These beautiful self catering budget minded vacation rentals are surrounded by tropical gardens, each lodging unit has its own private porch and garden space with hammock and sun bed. Your vacation rentals get away in the Caribbean for scuba diving, snorkling and/or windsurfing in the crystal clear water of the Caribbean."

Budget is as budget pays.

We've stayed at Coco Palm Gardens for quite a few years now and love the place. The apartments have a very relaxing atmosphere. The owners keep the apartments well maintained and always have taken care of any problems immediately. I have never seen any cock roaches, but again you are in the tropics. I like the feeling of this place being a second home and not just a place to stay. We have been very comfortable here. Some folks like the resorts.....my husband and I enjoy the privacy of this location. The hosts, Marion and Brigette, are truly the best.
