I don't see anyone saying much about the Plaza on Bonaire. We made reservations for May 13-20 based upon the article in Sport Diver Magazine a couple of months back. I wish I had found this site before making reservations... anyone want to offer up some current opinions on the Plaza?

Thanks,
Vic

Vic -

Hola fellow North Texan y bon bini na Bonaire Talk!

Since 1999 we have stayed at the Plaza for all of our four visits to Bonaire.

I think you have made a good choice if you like some of the best snorkeling on the island at your front door, extra-large rooms, grounds with many beautiful tropical flowers, one of the best restaurants (the Tipsy Seagull) from which to enjoy sunsets and watch for the elusive green flash, a great breakfast buffet and the company of fellow tourists from other than the U.S., mainly the Netherlands.

I am assuming you have not been to Bonaire before, so let me advise you that the Plaza is nothing like all-inclusives found on other islands upstream. After all, the major reason folks go to Bonaire is for the sea life, not the casinos, shopping, partying and non-stop frenetic pace. This is a place to relax, a place to enjoy nature above and below the water, and to experience new cultures.

Feel free to ask about specific room locations, hotel restaurant reviews, etc. Everyone has their favorite accommodation on Bonaire, but I think you will find many who favor the Plaza.

We have stayed at Plaza the last two years in July. Have traveled with a group and truly enjoyed our stay. Eighteen Palms dive site was one of our favorites last year. Toucan diving is a professional operation and we were satisfied with them. Have a great trip.

Thanks for all the positive responses. This will be our first trip to Bonaire, and we are really looking forward to it. This will be our first extended stay at one location, since we have always done our Ocean diving while traveling on a cruise ship in the past.

Victor.

I have stayed at the Plaza every year since it opened with our group from New Jersey Fantasea Scuba. They have taken care of our group, some years 12 others 45 and like any place you have very small issues, but they have been outstanding with handling these ( including having to switch beds in the condos for our big guys). The dive team run by Simone are great and very flexible. Enjoy your trip and take full advantage of the diving operation and what they have to offer.

If you are going through San Juan, you might want to check out http://www.oldbonairetalk.com/newsgroup/messages/29/255870.html?1140018390.

There is a ton of good information there, especially for the first-time traveler.

We hope you have time to write up a trip report upon your return. Even those of us who have been to Bonaire several times can learn something from travel reports. And it seems the travel reports of first-timers always are more interesting because they are through fresh eyes.

Buen viaje!

This will be our 5th time staying at the Plaza and have no complaints of the hotel. Recently they put a new pool in . We are eager to check it out. Going in April for 8 days... Breakfast buffet is excellent, sizes of rooms, plus there is a reef right outside the beach area.. 53 more days till Bonaire ! :-)
